After a short introduction on how we get information of the magnetic fields from radio observations I discuss the results concerning the magnetic field structure in galaxies: Large-scale regular magnetic field pattern of spiral structure exist in grand-design spirals, flocculent and even irregular galaxies. The regular field in spirals is aligned along the optical spiral arms but strongest in t...

The Seyfert 1 nucleus of NGC4395 is energized by a black hole of mass 3.6× 10M⊙ (Peterson et al.), making it one of only two nuclear black holes of intermediate mass, 10−10M⊙, detected in the radio regime. Building upon UV and X-ray evidence for outflows from this Seyfert nucleus, the VLBI High Sensitivity Array was used at 1.4 GHz to search for extended structure on scales greater than 5 mas (...

We have discovered an excess of extremely red objects (EROs) surrounding the z = 2.69 quasar QSO 1213–0017 (UM 485). Optical/IR colors for these galaxies are consistent with z = 1 − 2 ellipticals, and there are at least 5 galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts at z ≈ 1.31. Keck optical spectra for 3 of the red galaxies show rest-frame UV breaks resembling local elliptical galaxies. Our initial r...

We explore the evolution of the morphology-density relation using the COSMOS Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) and previous cluster studies. The Gini parameter measured in a Petrosian aperture is found to be an effective way of selecting early-type galaxies free from systematic effects with redshift. We find that galaxies are transformed from late(spiral and irregular) to early-type (E+S0) gala...

We construct near-infrared to visible broad band NICMOS/WFPC color maps for 4 early-type Seyfert galaxies with S-shaped or one-sided ionization cones. We find that dust lanes are near or connected to many of the features seen in the [OIII] and Hα+[NII] line emission maps. This suggests that much of the structure of line emission in these ionization cones is determined by the distribution of amb...

We detect correlations in the cosmic far-infrared background due to the clustering of star-forming galaxies, in observations made with the Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (BLAST), at 250, 350, and 500 μm. Since the star-forming galaxies which make up the far-infrared background are expected to trace the underlying dark matter in a biased way, measuring clustering in the far...

in new management approaches, in the organizations with inflexible structure, existing of red tapes and interruptions caused by limitations and also non-compliance with environmental changes, create demotivation among staff. with regard to the influence of job motivational potential and its relationship to the type of organizational structure( enabling and dissuasive), the goal of this research...

This review summarizes some aspects of the central kiloparsec scale structure of galaxies, and in particular spiral galaxies, elliptical galaxies and merger remnants. The focus is on results from optical and near-IR imaging and spectroscopy, with emphasis on recent work with the Hubble Space Telescope.

We discuss the use of galaxies to trace the large-scale structure of the universe and thereby to make cosmological inferences. We put special emphasis on our lack of knowledge about the relative distribution of galaxies and the dynamically important dark matter. We end with a discussion of the increasing importance of infrared astronomy to large-scale structure studies.

We present the results of a spectroscopic survey of the kinematic structure of star-forming galaxies at redshift z ∼ 2 − 3 using Keck/OSIRIS integral field spectroscopy. Our sample is comprised of 12 galaxies between redshifts z ∼ 2.0 and 2.5 and one galaxy at z ∼ 3.3 which are well detected in either Hα or [O iii] emission. These galaxies are generally representative of the mean stellar mass o...
