The plant growth, phosphate acquisition, Cd translocation, phytochelatins (PCs) production and antioxidant parameters [superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), guaiacol peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione (GSH), ascorbate (ASA) and malonaldehyde (MDA)] were investigated in Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum photeinocarpum inoculated with Glomus vers...

Let G be a finite group and V be a finite G–module. We present upper bounds for the cardinalities of certain subsets of Irr(GV ), such as the set of those χ ∈ Irr(GV ) such that, for a fixed v ∈ V , the restriction of χ to 〈v〉 is not a multiple of the regular character of 〈v〉. These results might be useful in attacking the non–coprime k(GV )–problem.

To elucidate the mechanism of anti-inflammatory effect of partial liquid ventilation (PLV), cytokine concentration, surface CD11b, and macrophage expression were investigated in BALF. The 30-minutes group was treated with gas ventilation (GV) for 30 minutes after intratracheal LPS administration. The GV group was prepared in the same manner as the 30-minutes group, then the GV was continued for...

AIM To study whether pulmonary stretch receptor (PSR) activity in mechanically ventilated young cats with healthy lungs during partial liquid ventilation (PLV) is different from that during gas ventilation (GV). METHODS In 10 young cats (4.4 +/- 0.4 months, 2.3 +/- 0.3 kg; mean +/- SD), PSR instantaneous impulse frequency (PSR fimp) was recorded from single fibres in the vagal nerve during GV...

The bacterial tripeptide formyl-Met-Leu-Phe (fMLP) induces the secretion of enzyme(s) with phospholipase A(2) (PLA(2)) activity from human neutrophils. We show that circulating human neutrophils express groups V and X sPLA(2) (GV and GX sPLA(2)) mRNA and contain GV and GX sPLA(2) proteins, whereas GIB, GIIA, GIID, GIIE, GIIF, GIII, and GXII sPLA(2)s are undetectable. GV sPLA(2) is a component o...

To review the use of gentian violet 1% (GV) in a long-term care facility for the treatment of small, open wounds and extremity eschars of all sizes and thickness. The records of all the patients receiving topical GV therapy over a period of 1 year, from May 19, 2007 - May 19, 2008 were reviewed. The total sample was 70 patients (38 male, 32 female), average age 65.9 y.o., with 111 wounds (41 pa...

Introduction: Gardnerella vaginalis (GV) or bacterial vaginosis is one of the most microorganism agents of vaginitis. Malodorous vaginal discharge is the most common symptom of this vaginitis. GV can be found in vagina of asymptomatic women. Importance of this organism is for its complications during pregnancy and non pregnancy and after gynecologic operations. The purpose of this study is det...

Glucose control, glucose variability (GV), and risk for hypoglycemia are intimately related, and it is now evident that GV is important in both the physiology and pathophysiology of diabetes. However, its quantitative assessment is complex because blood glucose (BG) fluctuations are characterized by both amplitude and timing. Additional numerical complications arise from the asymmetry of the BG...

OBJECTIVES To identify maternal and infant characteristics associated with reduced growth velocity (GV) in extremely premature newborns. METHODS We evaluated 1,187 infants born between 23 and 27 weeks' gestation at 14 institutions between 2002 and 2004 who survived until day 28 to identify the maternal and infant characteristics associated with a GV and caloric intake in the lowest quartile. ...
