Active filters have become a viable alternative for controlling harmonic levels in industrial and commercial facilities. However, there are many different filter configurations that can be employed and there is no standard method for rating the active filters. This paper describes the active filter operation characteristics and develops standard ratings that can be used for filtering different ...

Absrruct-The problem of propagation and interaction of optical radiation in dielectric waveguides is cast in the coupled-mode formalism. This approach is useful for treating problems involving energy exchange between modes. A derivation of the general theory is followed by application to the specific cases of electrooptic modulation, photoelastic and magnetooptic modulation, and optical filt...

We develop a linear algorithm for extracting extragalactic point sources for the Compact Source Catalogue of the upcoming PLANCK mission. This algorithm is based on a simple top-hat filter in the harmonic domain with an adaptive filtering range which does not require a priori knowledge of the CMB power spectrum and the experiment parameters such as the beam size and shape nor pixel noise level.

By measuring the fringe visibility in a Young's double pinhole experiment, we demonstrate that quasi-phase-matched high-harmonic generation produces beams with very high spatial coherence at wavelengths around 13 nm. To our knowledge these are the highest spatial coherence values ever measured at such short wavelengths from any source without spatial filtering. This results in a practical, smal...

This paper presents a comparison between Kalman filter and the running DFT for the computation of harmonics in power systems applications. The performance of both filters is compared for events like voltage dips or those in which a decaying DC component is present. The comparison considers also the presence of higher order harmonics. Key-Words: Digital filters, Harmonic analysis, Kalman filteri...

Accurate and effective Voice Activity Detection (VAD) is a fundamental step for robust speech and speaker recognition. In this study, we propose a robust VAD algorithm based on Modified Wiener Filtering and Harmonic Structure Information. Effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by using some wellknown databases. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs well under...

In this paper we present a two stage noise reduction algorithm for speech enhancement. The speech noise removal algorithm is based on a two stage noise filtering LSAHT by log spectral amplitude speech estimator (LSA) and harmonic tunneling (HT) with spectral subtraction. The performance of the system is measured by the segmental signal-to-noise ratio, mean opinion score (MOS) tests, and the rec...

This paper presents solution trajectories for programmed PWM technique to eliminate specific order harmonics in a single phase inverter. Evolutionary algorithm is applied to determine optimum switching angles in order to elmininate low order harmonics for modulation index: -1  M  +1. An implementation using a DE2-115 Cyclone IVE FPGA device is also reported in this paper. The experimental res...

Abstract—The harmonic distortion of voltage is important in relation to power quality due to the interaction between the large diffusion of non-linear and time-varying single-phase and three-phase loads with power supply systems. However, harmonic distortion levels can be reduced by improving the design of polluting loads or by applying arrangements and adding filters. The application of passiv...

The improved parametric identification of chaotic systems was investigated for the double pendulum system. From recorded experimental response data, the unstable periodic orbits were extracted and later used in a harmonic balance identification process. By applying digital filtering, digital differentiation and linear regression techniques for optimization, the results were improved. Verificati...
