we discuss here an uncommon condition of neurogenic hypotension in the context of immunoglobulin light chain (amyloid light-chain) amyloidosis. th e most serious feature was autonomic nervous system impairment, mainly characterized by severe refractory orthostatic hypotension, which became progressively invalidating, forcing the patient to bed. moreover, since the systemic involvement of the di...

Litomosoides sigmodontis is the only filaria which develops from infective larvae into adults in immunocompetent laboratory mice. Depletion of CD4+ T cells from infected BALB/c mice resulted in worm and microfilarial burdens significantly higher than those of infected controls. Th2 cytokines, eosinophilia, and immunoglobulin E, which were strongly induced in infected controls, were diminished i...

Allergen-specific IgG antibodies play a significant role in allergen-specific tolerance, either naturally induced or generated by specific immunotherapy. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanisms are still debated, and allergen-specific IgG determinations are not recommended as a diagnostic tool in IgE-mediated allergy. This review summarizes the latest findings on the immunological and diagnosti...

Patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) tend to have greatly elevated levels of serum immunoglobulin E (IgE). However, the role of IgE in the pathogenesis of AD is debated. This investigator-initiated open-label pilot study evaluates an anti-IgE-treatment approach by combining extracorporeal immunoadsorption and anti-IgE antibody omalizumab in 10 patients with severe, therapy-refractory AD. IgE le...

Food allergy is a common problem in childhood. The term is used to include both immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated and non-IgE-mediated food allergies, which have a significant effect on the quality of life of patients and their families. In this report, we aim to discuss recent advances in the diagnosis, management, and treatment modalities of food allergy in children.

A panel of 20 murine CD4+ clones was examined for the presence of surface membrane receptors for IgA, IgM, IgD, IgE, and IgG. High level expression of multiple Fc receptors (FcRs) was found on all Th2 clones. FcR expression was low or undetected on the Th1 clones. The preferential expression of FcR on activated Th2 cells suggests potential mechanisms for immunoregulatory interactions with B cells.

We have examined the contributions of Interleukin 4 (IL-4), IL-5, and other stimuli to the expression of Immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) and IgE in murine B lymphoblasts activated with anti-Ig. The combination of IL-4 and -5 induced B lymphoblasts to proliferate and to secrete IgM and IgG1. However, an additional stimulus was required along with IL-4 and -5 for induction of IgE secretion. This stimulu...

background: hepatitis e virus (hev) infection is a self-limiting viral infection that can lead to severe complications and death. in different regions the epidemiology of this infection varies. in this study we evaluated the seroepidemiology of hepatitis e infection in jahrom, a city in southern iran. methods: this was a cross-sectional descriptive study of serum samples from 477 subjects, incl...

Twelve atopic dermatitis patients were studied to investigate the relationship between levels of antistaphylococcal immunoglobulin E antibodies in serum and quantitative cultures of Staphylococcus aureus strains from the anterior nares and chronic lesions. A positive correlation was found between logarithmic counts of S. aureus strains from the anterior nares and levels of antistaphylococcal im...
