Many large-scale (cloud) computations operate on append-only, partitioned datasets. We present two incremental computation frameworks to reuse prior work in these circumstances: (1) reusing identical computations already performed on data partitions, and (2) computing just on the newly appended data and merging the new and previous results.

Computation of the Internet Checksum via Incremental Update Status of this Memo This memo provides information for the Internet community. This memo does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract This memo describes an updated technique for incremental computation of the standard Internet checksum. It updates the method described in RFC 1141.

A data warehouse stores materialized views over data from one or more sources in order to provide fast access to the integrated data, regardless of the availability of the data sources. In this paper, we define a new compensation algorithm that is used in removing the anomalies, caused by interfering updates at the base relations, of incremental computation for updating the view. Unlike existin...

We describe a complete Scheme implementation of miniAdapton, which implements the core functionality of the Adapton system for incremental computation (also known as self-adjusting computation). Like Adapton, miniAdapton allows programmers to safely combine mutation and memoization. miniAdapton is built on top of an even simpler system, microAdapton. Both miniAdapton and microAdapton are design...

This paper describes an experimental approach to Detection of Minimal Semantic Units and their Meaning (DiMSUM), explored within the framework of SemEval’16 Task 10. The approach is primarily based on a combination of word embeddings and parserbased features, and employs unidirectional incremental computation of compositional embeddings for multiword expressions.

Placing column lap-splice in the locations of possible nonlinear deformation may adversely affect the structures response to strong ground motions. Localization of damage in splice zone may change the structural response and prevent the load redistribution and development of a uniform pattern of nonlinear excursions among the various members. Validated by existing laboratory experiments, this s...

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh A common way to evaluate the time complexity of an algorithm is to use asymptotic worst-case analysis and to express the cost of the computation as a function of the size of the input. However, for an incremental algorithm this kind of analysis is sometimes not very informative. (By an “incremental algorithm...

Seismic fragility analysis of bridges can be used to identify the probability different damage states under earthquake hazards. This study aims generate curve highway in Tehran, Iran, where these curves are not provided yet. To derive new curves, from studies all around world has been classified into categories, based on their structural designs, bridge materials, country, and analytical method...
