An important issue when deening a rule-based agent programming language is the design of interpreters for these programming languages. Since these languages are all based on some notion of rule, an interpreter must provide some means of selection from a set of such rules. We provide a concrete and intuitive ordering on rules on which this selection can be based. This ordering is inspired by the...

This paper summarizes the work carried out by the authors during the last years. It proposes an approach for defining extensible and flexible formal interpreters for diagram notations based on high-level timed Petri nets. The approach defines interpreters by means of two sets of rules. The first set specifies the correspondences between the elements of the diagram notation and those of the sema...

Modern operating systems run multiple interpreters in the kernel, which enable user-space applications to add new functionality or specialize system policies. The correctness of such interpreters is critical to the overall system security: bugs in interpreters could allow adversaries to compromise user-space applications and even the kernel. Jitk is a new infrastructure for building in-kernel i...

Domain-specific modeling techniques are being adopted with more frequency in the engineering of computer based systems. In the presence of new stakeholder requirements, it is possible that a meta-model undergoes numerous changes during periods of evolution. There is a fundamental problem in maintaining the model interpreters in terms of such metamodel schema changes. This position paper outline...

As older mainframe architectures become obsolete, the corresponding legacy software is increasingly executed via platform emulators running on top of more modern commodity hardware. These emulators are virtual machines that often include a combination of interpreters and just-in-time compilers. Implementing interpreters and compilers for each combination of emulated and target platform independ...

This paper presents the open source reference implementation of RuleML based on modular XML Schema definitions and bidirectional OO jDREW interpreters written in Java. For the family of RuleML sublanguages, schema modularization and RDF rules are discussed. The central bidirectional interpreters are introduced via jDREW principles, and explained w.r.t. OO jDREW slots, types, OIDs, and extensions.
