We show that the enclosure method introduced here is applicable to inverse scattering problems in two dimensions. Using the single set of the Cauchy data of a solution of the Helmholtz equation, we give some formulae for extracting the value of the support functions of unknown sound-hard polygonal obstacles and piecewise linear cracks from the set. We define an automatic proof procedure for finitely manyvalued logics given by truth tables. The proof procedure is based on the inverse method. To define this procedure, we introduce so-called introduction-based sequent calculi. By studying proof-theoretic properties of these calculi we derive efficient validityand satisfiability-checking procedures based on the inverse method. We also show ho...

We consider a problem which may be viewed as an inverse one to the Schwinger realization of Lie algebra, and suggest a procedure of deforming the so-obtained algebra. We illustrate the method through a few simple examples extending Schwinger’s su(1, 1) construction. As results, various q-deformed algebras are (re-)produced as well as their undeformed counterparts. Some extensions of the method ...

in this paper, the rayleigh's quotient and the inverse vector iteration method are presented. the latter approach helps to obtain the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a structure. inverse vector iteration method with shifting enables to determine the higher modes. some basic theorems of linear algebra are presented and extended to study the free vibration of structures. the variation...

We discuss the general scheme of building resolution calculi (also called the inverse method) originating from S. Maslov and G. Mints. A survey of resolution calculi for various nonclassical logic is presented, along with several common properties these calculi possess.

Focusing is traditionally seen as a means of reducing inessential nondeterminism in backward-reasoning strategies such as uniform proof-search or tableaux systems. In this paper we construct a form of focused derivations for propositional linear logic that is appropriate for forward reasoning in the inverse method. We show that the focused inverse method conservatively generalizes the classical...

A novel numerical method for solving inverse scattering problem with fixed-energy data is proposed. The method contains a new important concept: the stability index of the inversion problem. This is a number, computed from the data, which shows how stable the inversion is. If this index is small, then the inversion provides a set of potentials which differ so little, that practically one can re...

A method is described for the inverse calibration of a manipulator or robot. Inverse calibration is defined to be finding the joint angles necessary to drive a robot to a desired endpoint location. The joint angles recommended by the robot controller's internal model will not, in general, drive the robot to the desired location because of inaccuracies in this model. Inverse calibration seeks to...

Fatigue crack growth is a random process and various uncertainties affect the remaining useful life of engineering materials and structures. A general probabilistic life prediction methodology for accurate and efficient fatigue prognosis is proposed in this paper. The proposed methodology is based-on an inverse first-order reliability method (FORM) to evaluate the fatigue life at an arbitrary r...
