This study evaluated the effects of dietary Ca and P levels on laying hens housed in floor pens (F) or cages (C). Two hundred fifty-six 1-dold pullets, Lohmann Brown (B) and Bovan White (W) intermingled in equal numbers, were placed into 8 F. One hundred twenty-eight 1-d-old caged pullets were allocated into 32 layer C at 14 wk of age. Hens were given isocaloric and isoprotein diets containing ...

Oceanic lithosphere is rapidly recycled into the mantle through subduction, an important part of the dynamic evolution of the Earth. Cratonic continental lithosphere, however, can exist for billions of years, moving coherently with the tectonic plates. At the Caribbean–South American Plate margin, a complex subduction system and continental transform fault is adjacent to the South American crat...

Using the theory of almost conserved energies and the “I-method” developed by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka and Tao, we prove that the initial value problem for a higher order Schrödinger equation is globally wellposed in Sobolev spaces of order s > 1/4. This result is sharp.

We establish long-time existence results for quasilinear wave equations in the exterior of star-shaped obstacles. To do so, we prove an analogue of the mixed-norm estimates of Keel, Smith, and Sogge for the perturbed wave equation. The arguments that are presented rely only upon the invariance of the wave operator under translations and spatial rotations.

The teeth of sea urchins comprise a variety of different structural entities, all of which are composed of magnesium-bearing calcite together with a small amount of organic material. The teeth are worn down continuously, but in such a way that they remain sharp and functional. Here we describe aspects of the structural, compositional and micromechanical properties of the teeth of Paracentrotus ...

The aim of study was to evaluate efficacy of extracted Chondroitin Sulfate (CS) from chicken keel cartilages, its comparison with standard CS from shark origin alone and in combination with Glucosamine Sulfate (GS) in developed and standardized papain induced Osteoarthritis (OA) rat model. Control group (normal) received sterile normal saline solution while experimental group’s papain intra-art...

Received: Revised: Accepted: December 09, 2012 February 11, 2013 May 24, 2013 The present study was conducted to explore the potential and cheaper source of major and abundantly found sulphated glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in chicken keel cartilage. Chicken is comparatively readily accessible to all the communities of Pakistan and its cartilages are the rich source of sulphated GAGs. The GAGs were...

This paper presents an overview of the DACAPO (Demonstration of Acoustic Communication for ADCP read-Out) sea trials, which took place on the Western Scheldt (Netherlands) in August 2005. The purpose of these trials was to acquire current profiles and to measure the draft of sailing bulk carriers. Such measurements must take place in the navigation channel, where the traffic itself prohibits th...

Recent discoveries of early bony fishes from the Silurian and earliest Devonian of South China (e.g. Psarolepis, Achoania, Meemannia, Styloichthys and Guiyu) have been crucial in understanding the origin and early diversification of the osteichthyans (bony fishes and tetrapods). All these early fishes, except Guiyu, have their dermal skeletal surface punctured by relatively large pore openings....
