Acinetobacter pittii 44551 was recovered from a patient with gout combined with tuberculosis and was found to harbor the carbapenemase genes blaNDM-1 and blaOXA-58 on two different plasmids pNDM-44551 and pOXA58-44551, respectively. pNDM-44551 displayed high self-transferability across multiple bacterial species, while pOXA58-44551 was likely co-transferable with pNDM-44551 into A. baumannii re...
Objectives: To describe the genetic environment, transferability, and antibiotic susceptibility of one clinical Klebsiella pneumoniae isolate harboring both blaOXA-48 and blaNDM-1 on different plasmids from a Chinese hospital. Methods: The isolate was subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing and multilocus sequence typing using Etest and PCR. The plasmids harboring blaOXA-48 and blaNDM...
Objective: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacter cloacae infections are known to be particularly prevalent in vulnerable populations, especially children. However, the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of carbapenemresistant E. cloacae infections in the pediatric wards of China have not been well described. The aim of the present study was to characterize an outbreak of carbapenem-resistant ...
Reports of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in Africa remain rare and assess mostly blaOXA-48-producing isolates from Mediterranean countries and South Africa. We identified blaNDM-7-producing Enterobacteriaceae in Gabon in 2016. The isolates contained blaNDM-7 IncX3 plasmids that were unusual and similar to the one described in a colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae SZ04 isolate ...
Draft Genome Sequence of the blaOXA-436- and blaNDM-1-Harboring Shewanella putrefaciens SA70 Isolate
We sequenced a carbapenem-resistant Shewanella putrefaciens isolate cultured from the sink handle of a Pakistan hospital room. Assembly annotation indicates that the isolate has a chromosomal blaOXA-436 carbapenemase and a plasmid-borne blaNDM-1 gene. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a Shewanella species harboring blaNDM.
Background: The opportunistic human pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, is a critical cause of nosocomial infection with high morbidity and mortality rate. Eradication P. aeruginosa has been troublesome due to its capacity develop strong multidrug resistance (MDR). Objectives: purposes this study were define the pattern antimicrobial sensitivity, typing, prevalence metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) detec...
introduction recently acinetobacter baumannii isolates have emerged as a problematic infectious agent that causes meningitis in neurosurgical patients. colistin has been used successfully for the treatment of a. baumannii meningitis but colistin resistant isolates have been reported worldwide. case presentation two isolates of a. baumannii were cultured during a five-day period from cerebrospin...
Background & Aims: The inappropriate use of antibiotics has led to antibiotic resistance in microorganisms of Enterobacteriaceae family, especially in carbapenems. The aim of this study was to identify the carbapenemase producing Citrobacter frundii and Citrobacter koseri isolated from clinical specimens. Methods: One hundred Citrobacter isolates from various patient samples i...
Objective(s): Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important nosocomial pathogens causing a high rate of mortality among hospitalized patients. Herein, we report the prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes, class 1 integrons, major virulence genes and clonal relationship among multidrug- resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa, isolated from four referral hospitals in the...
We investigated 16S rRNA methyltransferases in 38 blaNDM-1-positive Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates and found RmtC in 3 isolates, 1 of which also harbored RmtF. The isolates were clonally unrelated; rmtC and rmtF genes were located on a chromosome with the blaNDM-1 gene. Strategies are needed to limit the spread of such isolates.
