We report here the first draft assembly for the genome of Acinetobacter idrijaensis strain MII, isolated from the Idrija mercury mine area (Slovenia). This strain shows a strikingly high tolerance to mercury, and the genome sequence shows genes involved in the mechanisms for heavy metal tolerance pathways and multidrug efflux pumps.
The metalloprotein MerR is a mercury(II)-dependent transcriptional repressor-activator that responds to mercury(II) with extraordinary sensitivity and selectivity. It's widely distributed in both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria but with barely detectable sequence identities between the two sources. To provide structural basis for the considerable biochemical and biophysical experiments...
in this study mercury was determined in canned tuna fish produced and distributed in iran after digestion by the standard methods of aoac. mercury contents in fish and canned tuna fish were determined by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometry. the metal contents expressed in mg/kg wet weight for mercury varied from 0.017 to 0.394 (average of 0. 089) and 0.023 to 0.529 (average of 0.146)...
background: mercury is a heavy metal with high toxic effects. it has many apply to various industries, so can enter to the environment from different resources. therefore, its elimination from wastewater is a major challenge. in this study, removal of mercury from aqueous solution using two types of almond shell was investigated and compared. methods: this experimental-intervention study has be...
Most works on liquid metal embrittlement up to 1960 are compiled by Rostoker et al. (1) They stated that grain boundary diffusion is not an origin of embrittlement, since its rate, in general, is too small. However, Waterhouse et al. (2), performing the experiment on 70/30 brass wetted with mercury, suggested that dissolution of zinc from grain-boundaries into mercury accelerates the degree of ...
Concentrations of lead, cadmium, mercury, selenium, chromium and manganese were examined in breast feathers of shorebirds migrating north through Cape May, New Jersey in 1991 and 1992. Although we predicted that metal levels would be positively correlated with weight, this was only true for mercury in red knots (Calidris canutus). Selenium was negatively correlated with weight in red knots. No ...
This study highlights the behaviour of Mercury in the abiotic and biotic segments of the Mandovi-Zuari estuarine system. Spatial, seasonal (Premonsoon and Postmonsoon) and tidal, distribution of THg in dissolved/particulate fractions, sediment concentrations were mapped of the river mouths, Mormugao Port, inner and outer environs of this estuarine system. Observed seasonal partition studies pro...
BACKGROUND In Spain, few studies have evaluated prenatal exposure to heavy metals. The objective of this study was to describe lead, mercury and cadmium concentrations in blood from a sample of newborn-mother-father trios, as well as to investigate the association between metals in cord blood and parental variables. We also explored the relationship between cord blood metal concentrations and c...
Background: Mercury (Hg) is considered a global pollutant because Hg0 which is the predominant form of atmospheric Hg resides in the atmosphere for as long as 0.5 to 2 years. Mercury has many negative effects on the reproductive, respiratory, and immune systems. Methods: In this study, 24 Caspian lampreys (Caspiomyzon wagneri) were transported to the university laboratory and then stored in ...
