The results show that, in general, observation of PHIP effects on metals does not require the presence of a support. In addition, certain metal oxides can produce PHIP effects in the absence of a supported metal. The new promising catalysts for producing PHIP heterogeneously have been identified.

Described herein is the first study of metal oxide deposition on an electrode with a solid/liquid/gas triphase reaction interface. Such an electrode enables the formation of a locally high interface pH value that is independent of the bulk conditions, and allows the deposition of a wide variety of metal oxides in a robust electrolyte. The results reveal that the control of electrode surface wet...

While the formal valence and charge state concepts have been tremendously important in materials physics and chemistry, their very loose connection to actual charge leads to uncertainties in modeling behavior and interpreting data. We point out, taking several transition metal oxides (La(2) VCuO(6), YNiO(3), CaFeO(3), AgNiO(2), V(4)O(7)) as examples, that while dividing the crystal charge into ...

We review our recent theoretical DFT cluster studies of a variety of industrially relevant catalysts such as TiO(2), gamma-Al(2)O(3), V(2)O(5)-WO(3)-TiO(2) and Ni/Al(2)O(3). Aspects of the metal oxide surface structure and the stability and structure of metal clusters on the support are discussed as well as the reactivity of surfaces, including their behaviour upon poisoning. It is exemplarily ...

Magnetic thin films suitable for gigahertz operation must simultaneously achieve soft properties, high saturation magnetization, and a high resistivity. The recently-introduced metal/native oxide multilayer (MNOM) composite meets these requirements. This system consists of nanogranular high-moment CoxFe100-x layers separated by ultrathin magnetic native oxide layers that isolate the metallic la...

Polyaniline/polystyrene (PAni/PS) composites were prepared in aqueous solution by polymerization of styrene and aniline in two-stages. Firstly styrene polymerize by using Ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant in the presence of various surfactants such as poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and surfactive dopant sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate...

Metal oxide nanowires hold great promise for various device applications due to their unique and robust physical properties in air and/or water and also due to their abundance on Earth. Vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth of metal oxide nanowires offers the high controllability of their diameters and spatial positions. In addition, VLS growth has applicability to axial and/or radial heterostructure...

Ternary Cu/ZnO/metal oxide catalysts are prepared through the co-precipitation method under strict control of parameters like pH, calcination conditions, and precipitation temperature in a systematic manner. The metal oxides applied in this study consist of Al2O3, ZrO2, La2O3 and Ce2O3. The distinction of this work in comparison with similar research is a comprehensive investigatation of the ca...
