6-Methyl- 1,2,4-triazine-3-(2H)-selenone-5(4H)-one(l) reacts in the presence of base with phenacyl bromide to give a mixture of compounds (2) and (3). This mixture is dehydrated in the presence of H,SO, to give 3-phenyl-6 methyl-7H-selenazolo[3,2-b] [I ,2,4] triazin-7-one (6). For careful structure assignment of (6) its regioisomer 3-methyl-6-phenyl-4H-selenazolo [2,3-c] [ 1,2,4] triazin-4-one...

The requirement to phase-out methyl bromide (MB) in the cut-flower sector needs more attention than in other sectors in order to identify fully effective solutions that are environmental friendly and technically sustainable. Resistant varieties, soilless cultivation, steam, soil solarization, biocontrol agents and chemicals have been evaluated as potential alternatives and can be considered as ...

In the Mediterranean area, tomato soilborne pathogens used to be controlled by methyl bromide, particularly in protected cultivation. To decrease the use of this fumigant, non-chemical and chemical alternatives were developed and implemented in many Mediterranean countries. However, the success of the alternative depends on the degree of its integration in an integrated pest management programme.

Because methyl bromide (CH3Br) is a widely used agricultural fumigant for soil disinfection, it is important to know the chemical behavior and fate of CH3Br as a result of its use for soil treatment. A solid-state 13C NMR study of 13CH3Br-treated soil and soil-component samples shows that methylation of soil organic matter may be the major pathway for degradation of CH3Br in soils. Adsorption o...

The growth of Saccharomyces rouxii and Saccharomyces mellis, which are two of the main spoilage organisms of dates, can be inhibited by various treatments. The most effective treatment found in this study that did not affect flavor consisted of a predip of the dates in 2% potassium sorbate solution followed by injection of methyl bromide into the sealed package.
