Nanorods were decorated with different hemeproteins that are able to convert hydrogen peroxide. When dispersed into hydrogen peroxide solutions, most of these nanorods are characterized by diffusion coefficients which increase with the concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Such a behaviour does not characterize unmodified nanorods.

High-quality single-crystalline SnO₂ nanorods were synthesized using a microwave-assisted solution method. The nanorods were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ultraviolet-visible and Raman spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and electrical resistance measurements. The XRD pattern ind...

BACKGROUND Metallic nanorods are promising agents for a wide range of biomedical applications. In this study, we developed an optical hyperthermia method capable of inducing in vitro death of glioblastoma cells. METHODS The procedure used was based on irradiation of gold nanorods with a continuous wave laser. This kind of nanoparticle converts absorbed light into localized heat within a short...

zno nanorods and nanoparticles have been easily prepared via the decomposition of two simple schiff base zinc (ii) complexes, namely (n,n'–disalicylalethylenediamine)zince(ii) and (n,n'–disalicylalphenylenediamine)zince(ii) under microwave irradiation. the decomposition products of the complexes were characterized by ft-ir, xrd, sem, edx and uv-visible spectroscopy.  ft-ir, xrd and edx results ...

Selective area growth of ZnO nanorods is accomplished on microgap electrodes (spacing of 6 μm) by using a facile wet chemical etching process. The growth of ZnO nanorods on a selected area of microgap electrode is carried out by hydrothermal synthesis forming nanorod bridge between two electrodes. This is an attractive, genuine, direct, and highly reproducible technique to grow nanowire/nanorod...

Combination therapy, or the use of multiple drugs, has been proven to be effective for complex diseases, but the differences in chemical properties and pharmacokinetics can be challenging in terms of the loading, delivering, and releasing multiple drugs. Here we demonstrate that we can load and selectively release two different DNA oligonucleotides from two different gold nanorods. DNA was load...

Well-aligned Cu-doped ZnO nanorods were successfully synthesized on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate using chemical bath deposition method. The structural and optical properties of Cu-doped ZnO nanorods were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy...

A facile, rapid, solution-phase method of detecting human cardiac troponin I for sensing myocardial damage has been described using gold nanorods-based biosensors. The sensing is demonstrated by the distinct change of the longitudinal surface plasmon resonance wavelength of the gold nanorods to specific antibody-antigen binding events. For a higher sensitivity, the aspect ratio of gold nanorods...

Here we describe the synthesis of Au nanorods directly on glass surfaces using seed-mediated deposition of Au from AuCl4- onto surface-attached 3-5 nm diameter Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The average length (200 nm to 1.2 microm) and aspect ratio (6-22) of the nanorods increases with increasing AuCl4- concentration. Short, low aspect ratio ...

Triangular and hexagonal shaped noble metal (Au, Ag, Pt, Pd) nanodisks were synthesized on the top facets of ZnO nanorods via simple deposition-annealing method. Other metals (Ni, Cu, Cr, Pb, Al) only formed irregular shaped nanostructures on ZnO nanorods. The morphology, elemental composition, as well as growth mechanism of the metal nanodisks/ZnO nanorod composite materials were studied. The ...
