The rheology and molecular structure of a model bitumen (Cooee bitumen) under shear are investigated in the non-Newtonian regime using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The shear viscosity, normal stress differences, and pressure of the bitumen mixture are computed at different shear rates and different temperatures. The model bitumen is shown to be a shear-thinning fluid at all t...

This study reports the simulation of a photocatalytic system process and the photocatalytic property of self-cleaning asphalt concrete (SCAC) with four typical asphalt mixtures. A photocatalytic system was simulated based on the pollutant concentration data, which were collected on three types of city roads. Two photocatalytic indexes were proposed to evaluate the photocatalytic property of sel...

The technological temperatures of binders were established in this work based on the temperature-viscosity dependences constructed at an equal shear rate (40 s − 1), i.e. to which it is advisable heat bitumen during preparation asphalt concrete mixtures and corresponding beginning compaction laid coating. For all modified used work, these are only 2 - 4° lower than process initial bitumen.

The 7th century ship-burial at Sutton Hoo is famous for the spectacular treasure discovered when it was first excavated in 1939. The finds include gold and garnet jewellery, silverware, coins and ceremonial armour of broad geographical provenance which make a vital contribution to understanding the political landscape of early medieval Northern Europe. Fragments of black organic material found ...

resulting in decreased energy consumption and increased Experiments were performed to study bitumen film rupture and bitumen recovery, is the impetus for undertaking a systemdisplacement on model surfaces. Bitumen film on a glass plate atic study of the mechanisms involved in oil–water displacewas found to thin down and rupture in the presence of water ment on a solid surface. Such mechanistic ...

In recent years, the use of crumb rubber as modifier or additive within asphalt concretes has allowed obtaining mixtures able to bind high performances to recovery and reuse of discarded tires. To date, the common technologies that permit the reuse of rubber powder are the wet and dry ones. In this paper, a dry-hybrid technology for the production of Stone Mastic Asphalt mixtures is proposed. I...

In a large project of the German Bitumen Forum, almost all branches of industry in Germany that use bitumen have been examined with regard to bitumen exposure. A total of 1272 samples were gathered between 1991 and 2005. The measuring method includes vapours and aerosols emitted from hot bitumen; the proportions of these two components and their dependency on bitumen temperature are described. ...

INTRODUCTION An industrial hygiene database has been constructed for the exposure assessment in a study of cancer risk among asphalt workers. AIM To create models of bitumen and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) exposure intensity among paving workers. METHODS Individual exposure measurements from pavers (N = 1581) were collected from 8 countries. Correlation patterns between exposure ...

BACKGROUND We conducted a nested case-control study in a cohort of European asphalt workers in which an increase in lung cancer risk has been reported among workers exposed to airborne bitumen fume, although potential bias and confounding were not fully addressed. OBJECTIVE We investigated the contribution of exposure to bitumen, other occupational agents, and tobacco smoking to the risk of l...
