Only two cases have been reported of congenital dislocation of the hip in infants born after extrauterine pregnancies. We report a further two and discuss the management and the variable outcome. These cases seem to confirm that congenital dislocation of the hip is associated with moulding forces rather than being a teratological abnormality.

SUMMARY In this paper the LUSAS High Precision Moulding (HPM) integrated finite element environment for composite process simulation is introduced and validated against test components with single and double curvatures. Presented results show dependence on the laminate thickness, radius and in-plane dimensions, these agree well with the experimental data.

BACKGROUND Restoration of dentition leads to an improvement in the oral health related quality of life. Complete dentures are used to restore this oral cavity disability to its original condition. This study was designed to compare satisfaction levels between two groups of edentulous patients for whom two different border moulding techniques: 'conventional green stick' and 'polyvinyl siloxane m...

Oral solid dosage forms are the most patient-accepted and therefore industrially relevant pharmaceutical applications, representing 80% of the market share. In that context, polymer processing techniques, such as hot melt extrusion (HME) or injection molding (IM), are increasingly used to process primary material into the final dosage forms due to several benefits (e.g., enhanced solubility or ...

This paper discusses the place of rotational moulding in the provision of prosthetic shanks and shank sections. It covers the selection of thermoplastic material, the moulding conditions and their automation in a machine process, and the development of a suitable range of moulds. Also covered is the question of interfacing between the moulded shank sections and other limb components, fatigue st...

This paper is concerned with the injection moulding process, in which hot molten plastic is injected under high pressure into a thin cold mould. Assuming that the velocity and temperature profiles across the mould maintain their shape, a simple steady state model to describe the behaviour of a Newtonian fluid during the rilling stage is developed. Various phenomena of the process are examined, ...

Polymer injection in moulds with complicated shapes is common in todays industrial problems. A challenge is to optimize the mould design which leads to the most homogeneous filling. Current commercial softwares are able to simulate the process only partially. This paper proposes a preliminary study of the capability of a two-fluid LatticeBoltzmann model to provide a simple and flexible approach...
