OBJECTIVE In patients with subacute spinal cord injury (SCI), the motor system undergoes progressive structural changes rostral to the lesion, which are associated with motor outcome. The extent to which the sensory system is affected and how this relates to sensory outcome are uncertain. METHODS Changes in the sensory system were prospectively followed by applying a comprehensive magnetic re...
Purpose: Human umbilical cord matrix (UCM) (Wharton jelly) stem cells labeling are tracking by MRI. Materials and Methods: After 48 hours incubation with USPIO human umbilical cord matrix (UCM) stem cells were labeled with USPIO by the means of receptor-mediated endocytosis. Prussian blue staining and Atomic absorption spectroscopy were performed to identify and show the iron oxide nanoparticle...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the sensitivity of contact heat evoked potentials (CHEPs) compared with dermatomal somatosensory evoked potentials (dSSEPs) and clinical sensory testing in myelopathic spinal cord disorders (SCDs). METHODS In a prospective cohort study, light-touch (LT) and pinprick (PP) testing was complemented by dermatomal CHEPs and dSSEPs in patients with a confirmed SCD as defined b...
Spinal arachnoid cysts are uncommon benign lesions that occur in the spinal axis, and can cause spinal cord or nerve roots compression and may become clinically relevant. The authors report a 49-year-old woman who presented progressive onset of cervical pain with distal paraesthesia of the upper limbs associated to an intramedullary arachnoid cyst in the mid-cervical spine diagnosed by MRI. Fro...
BACKGROUND The goal of this study was to describe the hospital-based incidence of traumatic spinal cord injury in Tehran, Iran. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the hospital records of traumatic spinal cord injury patients, admitted between March 2010 and July 2011 in 61/68 hospitals of Tehran. RESULTS Overall, 138 cases of traumatic spinal cord injury were identified. The majority of pa...
Introduction The objective of this guideline is to outline the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in clinical decision making and outcome prediction in patients with traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods A systematic review of the literature was conducted to address key questions related to the use of MRI in patients with traumatic SCI. This review focused on longitudinal studies ...
The MR imaging features of a paraganglioma of the cauda equina with associated spinal cord cysts are presented. MR imaging showed the tumor to be isointense with the spinal cord on all pulse sequences and to enhance homogeneously. The intramedullary cysts had increased signal intensity on proton density- and T2-weighted images, and involved the cervical and thoracic regions.
BACKGROUND The evolution of non-hemorrhagic white matter injury (WMI) based on sequential magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has not been well studied. Our aim was to describe sequential MRI findings in preterm infants with non-hemorrhagic WMI and to develop an MRI classification system for preterm WMI based on these findings. METHODS Eighty-two preterm infants (gestation ≤35 weeks) were retros...
Introduction: Radiological exploration of the spine and spinal cord is now well codified. Nevertheless, technical evolutions, in particular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), allow new diagnostic avenues to be opened up it interesting know what their place clinical practice might today. With recent installation 1.5 Tesla MRI at CNHU-HKM with aim a preliminary evaluation activities, this work was...
