Bubbles freely rising in a fluid at rest can display variety of complex paths and shapes. We investigate experimentally their behavior the inertial regimes obtained for Hele-Shaw cell, where additional lateral walls are introduced to modify cell width, thus coupling between bubbles' velocity shape. Scaling laws characterizing different motion provided.

Bubbling fluidized beds are granular systems, in which a deep layer of particles is set in motion by a vertical gas stream, with the excess gas rising as bubbles through the bed. We show that pressure fluctuations in such a system have non-Gaussian statistics. The probability density function has a power-law drop-off and is very well represented by a Tsallis distribution. Its shape is explained...

Pulse ultrasound technique has been applied to measure the reflected echo signals from vapor bubbles in boiling two-phase flow. In this study, an ultrasonic transducer was developed for the ultrasonic measurement in boiling two-phase flow under the atmospheric pressure. Since the Curie point of piezoelements of the transducer is above 250 ̊C, it has an allowable temperature limit of 120 ̊C. The b...

This paper is concerned with semi-batch foams generated by injecting gas bubbles in a vertical column containing a liquid phase at rest. Its aim is to better understand the physical mechanisms responsible for foam formation at the liquid free surface and to predict the superficial gas velocity for onset of foaming. The model for predicting the onset of foaming is derived from the one-dimensiona...

Both large deformation and strong discontinuity problems exist in the process of bubble-bubble interaction. The lattice Boltzmann method which is based on the microscopic level has naturally comparative advantage to describe tiny changes in multiphase flow system. A three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann (LB) model of two horizontally aligned bubbles is presented to explore the bubble movement, to...

An electrostatic induction technique was used to determine both drop size distribution and concentration of bacteria in the film drops produced by bubbles bursting at the surface of a suspension of Serratia marcescens. Film drops are produced from the collapse of the thin film of water that just before bursting separates the air in the bubble from the atmosphere. Bubbles of 1.7-mm diameter prod...

Elongated bubbles which are constrained by the walls of a pipe are commonly known as Taylor bubbles. Taylor bubbles are prevalent in industrial gas-liquid flow, where they are commonly found in buoyancy driven fermenters, the production and transportation of hydrocarbons in the oil and gas industry, the boiling and condensing process in thermal power plants, and the emergency cooling of nuclear...

Detailed measurements of bubble composition, dissolved gas concentrations, and plume dynamics were conducted during a 9-month period at a very intense, shallow (22-m water depth) marine hydrocarbon seep in the Santa Barbara Channel, California. Methane, carbon dioxide, and heavier hydrocarbons were lost from rising seep bubbles, while nitrogen and oxygen were gained. Within the rising seawater ...
