Dear Sir, Cancer patients are at an increased risk of the blood stream infections (BSI) due to their immune‐compromised status, repeated hospitalizations, and various procedures. Staphylococci, particularly coagulase negative Staphylococci (CoNS) are noteworthy pathogens in such cases, and the emergence of multi‐drug resistance in Staphylococci is a cause of concern. This study was prospectivel...

Given the inappropriate use of antibiotics and prevalence of resistant bacteria, there is urgentneed for antibacterial drugs that have fewer side effects than antibiotics. Satureja bachtiaricais a medicinal plant which had many uses in traditional medicine. In this research, the ethanolextract of leave of Satureja bachtiarica is tested on coagulase-negative staphylococcus strains.Materials and ...

OBJECTIVES Development of antibiotic-resistant strains of coagulase-negative staphylococci has complicated the management of infections associated with the use of invasive medical devices, and innovative treatment and prophylactic options are needed. Honey is increasingly being used to treat infected wounds, but little is known about its effectiveness against coagulase-negative staphylococci. T...

AIM To develop and evaluate a rapid enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the diagnosis of intravascular catheter related sepsis caused by coagulase negative staphylococci. METHODS Forty patients with a clinical and microbiological diagnosis of intravascular catheter related sepsis and positive blood cultures, caused by coagulase negative staphylococci, and 40 control patients requiri...

introduction: drug resistant staphylococci are the most important agents of nosocomial infections. in this survey, effect of different antibiotics on these bacteria and their drug resistance was investigated. methods: the study included 500 strains of staphylococci. minimum inhibitory concentrations of all antibiotics was determined by the broth macro dilution technique and standard methods fro...

Objective Coagulase-negative staphylococci are among the most frequently isolated microorganisms in blood cultures. The aim of this study was to assess [1] the clinical characteristics of methicillin-resistant, coagulase-negative staphylococci bacteremia and [2] the susceptibility of the isolated bacteria to glycopeptides. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 70 patients f...

Human infections caused by coagulase-negative staphylococci have steadily increased in numbers and severity. Causes may be the use of artificial prostheses, immunocompromising chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and sophisticated surgical techniques, to name a few. Although the infectivity of coagulase-negative staphylococci as a group has been well documented for humans, attempts to study the ...

We evaluated the Roche LightCycler Staphylococcus M(GRADE) kits to differentiate between Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci in blood cultures growing clusters of gram-positive cocci. Testing 100 bottles (36 containing S. aureus), the assay was 100% sensitive and 98.44% specific for S. aureus and 100% sensitive and specific for coagulase-negative staphylococci.

The characterization of 556 Micrococcaceae isolates from various clinical sources has been presented. The incidence of coagulase-negative mannitol-positive staphylococci was 3.2% and that of coagulase-positive mannitol-negative staphylococci was 1.6%. There appears to be insufficient justification for the routine reporting of staphylococcal variants from a general bacteriology laboratory, and b...

OBJECTIVE This study sought to evaluate infections related to health care caused by coagulase-negative Staphylococci in a neonatal intensive care unit by assessing antimicrobial susceptibility profiles and potentially effective antibiotic regimens. METHODS This was a retrospective descriptive study performed on a case series of healthcare-associated infections, and the antimicrobial susceptib...
