Thirty patients with the Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) were evaluated for personality profiles and psychiatric morbidity. In comparison with normal controls, these patients were more neurotic, showed more anxiety and had a higher incidence of neurotic depression, anxiety neurosis and alcoholism.
