Strontium titanate (SrTiO3) nanopowder has been synthesized through a sol-gelhydrothermal method. The X-ray diffraction studies of SrTiO3 nanopowder have shown that the asprepared powder was single phase, crystalline, and has a cubic perovskite structure (ABO3) with a lattice constant a = 3.903 Å. The particle size calculated from FWHM was ∼22 nm. SrTiO3 nanopowder was examined using thermo gra...

The objective of the present investigation was to study the influence of the occupational nickel exposure on the concentration of nickel in nasal mucosa, plasma and urine. Plasma, urine and biopsy specimens of nasal mucosa from 318 nickel workers, 15 retired nickel workers and 57 non-exposed controls were analyzed for nickel by atomic absorption spectrometry. The results showed that nickel expo...

The current state of thin film heterojunction solar cells based on cuprous oxide (Cu₂O), cupric oxide (CuO) and copper (III) oxide (Cu₄O₃) is reviewed. These p-type semiconducting oxides prepared by Cu oxidation, sputtering or electrochemical deposition are non-toxic, sustainable photovoltaic materials with application potential for solar electricity. However, defects at the copper oxide hetero...

Phosphor nanomaterials are of special interest today due to their broad range of applications from the solid state lightening and novel flat displays to high resolution X-ray detectors and sensors in biomedicine. Among them polycrystalline Eu 3+ doped mixed oxide (Y 1-x Gd x) 2 O 3 is a well-known luminescent material widely used to provide red light emission for modern optoelectronic devices [...

Iron doping of nickel oxide films results in enhanced activity for promoting the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Whereas this enhanced activity has been ascribed to a unique iron site within the nickel oxide matrix, we show here that Fe doping influences the Ni valency. The percent of Fe3+ doping promotes the formation of formal Ni4+, which in turn directly correlates with an enhanced activity...

Nickel oxide is one of the highly promising semiconducting materials, but its large band gap (3.7 to 4 eV) limits its use in practical applications. Here we report the effect of nickel/oxygen vacancies and interstitial defects on the near-band-edge (NBE) and deep-level-emission (DLE) in various sizes of nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles. The ultraviolet (UV) emission originated from excitonic re...

This paper describes a strategy for producing hydrogen via steam reforming of ethylene glycol over supported nickel catalysts. Nickel plays a crucial role in conversion of ethylene glycol and production of hydrogen, while oxide supports affect product distribution of carbonaceous species. A plausible reaction pathway is proposed based on our results and the literature.

Nickel oxide nanostructures with different lengths have been easily synthesized by calcining nickel foil after soaking in LiOH solution of different concentrations. The measurements of electrochemical properties of these NiO nanostructures show that different lengths of NiO nanostructures would have different electrochemical properties and the NiO nanowires with the longest length have the larg...

Potentially toxic elements (PTEs) including nickel and chromium are often present in soils overlying basalt at concentrations above regulatory guidance values due to the presence of these elements in underlying geology. Oral bioaccessibility testing allows the risk posed by PTEs to human health to be assessed; however, bioaccessibility is controlled by factors including mineralogy, particle siz...
