Soluble polymers have been used as supports for reagent/catalyst immobilization and synthesis. Two polymers are commonly used in this context, linear polystyrene and poly(ethylene glycol). The complementary solubility properties of these polymers allow access to a wide range of chemistries. Parallel and combinatorial libraries of small molecules have been prepared using these polymers, and reag...

Organic/inorganic nanohybrid materials have attracted particular scientific and technological interest because they combine the properties of the organic and the inorganic component. Inorganic nanoparticles exhibit interesting electrical, optical, magnetic and/or catalytic properties, which are related with their nano-scale dimensions. However, their high surface-to-volume ratio often induces a...

Photograph of a mechanically flexible 2D-DFB laser made from the conjugated polymer MeLPPP. The laser is optically pumped well above the threshold for amplified spontaneous emission. The complex far-field emission pattern (blue-green) results from a large detuning between the resonance wavelength and the gain maximum. • A nearly diffraction limited surface emitting conjugated polymer laser util...

A radical polymer is an aliphatic organic polymer bearing densely populated unpaired electrons in the pendant robust radical groups per repeating unit. These radicals’ unpaired electrons are characterized by very fast electron-transfer reactivity, allowing reversible charging as the electrode-active materials for secondary batteries. Organic-based radical batteries have several advantages over ...

The three-component reaction of the tetrahedral diphosphorus complex [Cp2Mo2(CO)4(η2-P2)] (1), with Ag[BF4] (2) in the presence of 2,2'-bipyrimidine (3) leads to the formation of the two novel two-dimensional networks 4 and 5. Compound 4 is a new two-dimensional organometallic-organic hybrid polymer, while derivative 5 represents a unique two-dimensional organometallic-inorganic-organic hybrid ...

Organic materials have revolutionized optoelectronics by their processability, flexibility and low cost, with application to light-emitting devices for full-colour screens, solar cells and lasers. Some low-dimensional organic semiconductor structures exhibit properties resembling those of inorganics, such as polarized emission and enhanced electroluminescence. One-dimensional metallic, III-V an...

A microporous hypercrosslinked polymer resin was synthesized and shown to adsorb 3.04 wt.% hydrogen at 77 K and 15 bar; this represents the highest level of hydrogen adsorption yet observed for an organic polymer.

A thin-film transistor: An n-type polymer semiconductor, poly(2,3-bis(perfluorohexyl)thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine), was synthesized through a Pd-catalyzed polycondensation employing a perfluorinated multiphase solvent system. This is the first example of an n-type polymer semiconductor with exclusive solubility in fluorinated solvents. The fabrication of organic field effect transistors containing thi...

Nitroxide polymer brushes were covalently patterned on flexible conducting substrates via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization and microcontact printing. As a cathode of organic radical batteries, the nitroxide polymer brushes prevent the nitroxide polymer from dissolving into electrolyte solvents, which improves the cycle-life performance of batteries.
