A neutral metallo-cavitand based on cis bis-perhaloaryl Pd(II) bridges co-ordinated at the corners of a deep calix[4]arene. Both the metallo-cavitand and its inclusion complexes with other calix[4]arenes were investigated by means of (1)H and (19)F NMR experiments.

The formation of the two dimeric species [(TTF)2]+* and (TTF+*)2 can be monitored by complexation of Na+ on a calix[4]arene-TTF assembly.

Vanadyl bearing calix[4]arene ligands have undergone evaluation against several cell lines, and show varying degrees of toxicity. For vanadyl complexed to a sulfonylcalix[4]arene, monitoring of the strong blue fluorescence revealed slow uptake kinetics.
