Cyclosporin A is effective in the treatment of asthma patients, but its chronic use is limited by toxicity. Novel cyclosporin A analogues were synthesized utilizing the olefin metathesis reaction and evaluated in a calcineurin A inhibition assay. The novel analogues demonstrated activity comparable to activity of the parent molecule and are potential soft drugs.

The title compound, [Al(CH(3))(2)(C(25)H(21)N(2)O)(C(4)H(8)O)], was isolated as a minor component from a reaction mixture of the parent indolyl ligand and trimethyl-aluminum in tetra-hydro-furan. The ligands adopt a distorted tetra-hedral geometry around aluminium. Obvious hydrogen-bonding interactions are not present.

We report the first catalyst based on palladium for the reaction of CO2, alkene and a base to form sodium acrylate and derivatives. A mechanism similar to a previously reported Ni(0)-catalyst is proposed based on stoichiometric in situ NMR experiments, isolated intermediates and a parent palladalactone. Our palladium catalyst was applied to the coupling of CO2 with conjugated alkenes.

Novel bisimide-fused acenes were synthesized via bismuth triflate mediated double-cyclization reaction of acid chlorides and isocyanates. Their optical and electrical properties revealed significantly smaller HOMO-LUMO gaps compared with those of their parent acenes. Fabricated OFET based on tetracene bisimide showed n-type OFET outputs.

A simple high-yielding preparation of aryl alkynyl sulfides is presented. The reaction of a chloroacetylene with a thiolate salt in the presence of an amine mediator (dimethylamine or N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine) yields the alkynyl sulfides in excellent yields. The alkynyl chloride is easily prepared from the parent alkyne.

Endocrine cells in the normal glandular stomach and gastric carcinoids of mastomys were observed by electron microscopy and at least five types of endocrine cells, EC, G, D-like, R (round-granule) and ECL cells were identified. A fluorescent antibody test was used to identify L-Forms of N. gonorrhoeae induced in vitro. It was possible to differentiate the Large Bodies of the L-Forms from parent gonococci and the fluorescent reaction remained specific in the presence of tissue culture cells. A possible method to identify L-Forms of gonococci from patients presenting with postgonococcal urethritis is described.

The title compound, [Al(2)(C(32)H(48)NO(3))(2)], exists as a dimer with bridging ethoxide groups. It was isolated from a reaction mixture of the parent ligand and trimethyl-aluminium in tetra-hydro-furan. The geometry around the Al(III) atom is a slightly distorted trigonal-bipyramid, typical of atrane derivatives.
