so that an inflammatory change is most easily propagated to the bone. The causes of this propagation lie chiefly in the want of free removal of inflammatory products of the mucous membrane: though the membrana tympani be perforated, the tympanic cavity is at the bottom of a long narrow channel, so that stagnation readily occurs; and once inflammation has spread to the bone, the carious and necr...

The authors report a case of chondroblastoma in the unusual location of the temporal bone. CT findings do not differ dramatically from other reports: the lesion appeared as a soft-tissue density mass in the right temporal bone, with bony destruction and thinning of cortical margins. MR findings are more rare: on coronal T1-weighted images the lesion appeared as a mass, isointense to gray matter...

We report a painless osteoid osteoma of the inner ear in an elderly woman presenting with hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo. CT showed a heterogeneous mass containing calcifications involving the posterior labyrinth, which heterogeneously enhanced on postcontrast MR images. Osteoid osteoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of an osteolytic petrous bone lesion with central calci...

A 5-year-old boy was evaluated for a left retrotympanic mass found at otoscopy. Subsequent petrous bone CT and MR angiographic examinations demonstrated bilateral aberrant internal carotid, bilateral stapedial artery persistence, and bilateral duplicated internal carotid arteries. Imaging findings and their clinical relevance are discussed. A second case of unilateral aberrant internal carotid ...
