Chemical cross-linking reagents are valuable tools for studying the structural relationships between proteins in complexes and organelles. Copper phenanthroline is an oxidizing agent that has been used to cross-link membrane proteins via adjacent free thiol groups. In the courseof such topographical studies of rabbit liver microsomal preparations, we noted that incubation of microsomal preparat...

In the title mol-ecule, C(24)H(18)N(4)O(2), the dihedral angles between the mean plane of the phenanthroline ring system and the pyridine rings are 82.52 (5) and 71.58 (4)°. The dihedral angle between the two pyridine ring planes is 53.54 (6)°. In the crystal structure, there are π-π stacking inter-actions between 1,10-phenanthroline rings, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.6101 (11) and 3....

or inhibit, respectively, the stimulatory effects of PMA on PLD-mediated phospholipid hydrolysis. Instead, treatment of ['4C]cholineand [14C]ethanolamine-labelled NIH 3T3 fibroblasts with the high-affinity zinc chelator 1,10-phenanthroline (0.21 mM) for 20-30 min was found to enhance the stimulatory effects of PMA on PLD-mediated hydrolysis of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine. In the title mol-ecule, C(21)H(18)N(2), the mean plane of the benzene ring of the mesityl group forms a dihedral angle of 82.69 (4)° with that of the phenanthroline ring system. The crystal structure is stabilized by π-π stacking inter-actions between the phenanthroline system and the benzene ring of the mesityl group of a symmetry-related mol-ecule, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.7776 (...

Biaryl coupling (often labelled 'C-H activation') of aromatic systems can be achieved by potassium tert-butoxide alone in the absence of any amine or bipyridine catalyst (1,10-phenanthroline or N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine being the most common), previously reported to be essential. Various mechanistic studies and observations are presented which suggest that when 1,10-phenanthroline is employe...

The title compound, C12H8N2·2B(OH)3, is best described as a host-guest complex in which the B(OH)3 mol-ecules form a hydrogen-bonded cyclic network of layers parallel to the ab plane into which the 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules are bound. An extensive network of hydrogen bonds are responsible for the crystal stability. No π-stacking inter-actions occur between the 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules.

In the title mononuclear complex, [Cu(C(8)H(7)O(2))Cl(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)], the Cu(II) atom is coordinated by one carboxylate O atom from a monodentate 4-methyl-benzoate ligand, two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, one chloride ion and one water mol-ecule in a square-pyramidal geometry. The crystal structure exhibits inter- and intra-molecular C-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯O, O-H⋯Cl and O-H⋯O hydro...

A series of copper(I) complexes bearing 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmpp) and a diphosphine ligand have been prepared. The diphosphine ligands used have two, three or four methylene carbons between the two phosphorus atoms. The crystallographic study has revealed that two of the three complexes have the mononuclear structure bearing dmpp and a bidentate diphosphine ligand, an...

The crystal structure of the title complex, [Gd(C(8)H(3)NO(6))(C(8)H(4)NO(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2))](n), contains polymeric chains made up of Gd(III) atoms, 1,10-phenanthroline and fully or half-deproton-ated 5-nitro-benzene-1,3-dicarb-oxy-lic acid (H(2)L) ligands. The Gd(III) atom is coordinated in a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic fashion by six O atoms from two HL(-) and three L(2-) ligands, ...

The crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(SO4)(C12H8N2)2]·C2H5OH, arises from the assembly of the neutral complex [Cu(SO4)(C12H8N2)2] and an ethanol solvent mol-ecule. The Cu(II) ion is five-coordinate, surrounded by two pairs of N atoms from two independent N,N'-chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligands, and one O atom of monodentate sulfate ligand, in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal fashi...
