A simple rheological model has been used to describe foam flow through moving textile assemblies. The validity of this model was tested, and the nature and the relative magnitude of deviations from the model evaluated for several different substrates. Neglecting foam degeneration during transport, the model was found to represent a valuable means of evaluating some rheological and geometrical d...

Liquid foams have important practical applications in mineral separation and oil recovery. However, the details of the foam mechanics in these applications are poorly understood. Foam scientists have used 2D foam simulations to model foam behavior and 2D visualization solutions have helped them explore and analyze their data. Three-dimensional foam simulations remove some of the simplifying ass...

Since the development of the phenomenological method by Husserl, a variety of thinkers and researchers have contributed to an intense debate regarding the ontological and epistemological bases of Phenomenology, as well as its applicability to the inquiry of the human condition. This dialogue has spun an area of phenomenological research known as existentialphenomenological psychology, which has...

Qualitative research comes with various forms and faces, and, fortunately, there now exist numerous books that deal with issues related to qualitative research. Not that many books, however, deal explicitly and extensively with the transformation and application of principles of phenomenology and hermeneutics. Reflective Lifeworld Research is written as a response to this apparent need. It is, ...

Phenomenology questions the basic foundations of Modernity. In particular, it challenges Descartes‘ attempt to found the scientific method with absolute certainty. Phenomenology is defined by the work of Husserl, Heidegger, and Merleau-Ponty. Even though each of them developed their own way within Phenomenology, their theories are determined by a critique of the Cartesian method. For them, Desc...

We discuss the possibility of a smooth transition from the preto the post-big bang regime, in the context of the lowest-order string effective action (without higher-derivative corrections), taking into account with a phenomenological model of source the repulsive gravitational effects due to the back-reaction of the quantum fluctuations outside the horizon. We determine a set of necessary cond...

The paper shows that a phenomenological model of inertial induction based on a proposed extension of Mach’s Principle can produce the observed cosmological red shift in a quasi-static infinite universe. Unlike all other theories (except the Doppler effect) to explain the observed red shift this model can be verified from other local effects predicted by this mechanism. A number of such phenomen...

The spin dynamics of the ferromagnetic pinned layer of ferro-antiferromagnetic coupled NiFe/MnNi bilayers is investigated in a broad frequency range (30 MHz-6 GHz). A phenomenological model based on the Landau-Lifshitz equation for the complex permeability of the F/AF bilayer is proposed. The experimental results are compared to theoretical predictions.

We study light-cone distribution amplitudes of heavy-light systems, such as a B-meson. By an explicit computation, we determine how two-parton distribution amplitudes mix with threeparton ones at one loop: φ+ is shown to mix only into itself, whereas φ− mixes with the difference of three-parton distribution amplitudes ΨA −ΨV . We determine the corresponding anomalous dimension and we check the ...

We show that the space-time foam model from string/D-brane theory predicts a scenario in which neutrinos can possess linearly energy dependent speed variation, together with an asymmetry between and antineutrinos, indicating possibility of Lorentz CPT symmetry violation for neutrinos. Such is supported by phenomenological conjecture possible associations IceCube ultrahigh-energy neutrino events...
