Dendritic cells (DCs) not only exhibit the unique capacity to evoke primary immune responses, but may also acquire TLR-triggered cytotoxic activity. We and others have previously shown that TLR7/8- and TLR9-stimulated plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs) isolated from human peripheral blood express the effector molecule TRAIL. The exact mechanisms through which pDCs acquire and elicit their cytotoxic activi...

Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis JCM 5805(T) is a dairy lactic acid bacterium that induces plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) activation. Here, we report the 2.55-Mb draft genome and annotation of Lactococcus lactis JCM 5805(T). This genome information will provide further insights into the mechanisms underlying the immunomodulatory function of this strain.

The abnormal immune response accompanying IgG4-related autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is presently unclear. In this study, we examined the role of plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) activation and IFN-α production in this disease as well as in a murine model of AIP (MRL/Mp mice treated with polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid). We found that the development of AIP in treated MRL/Mp mice occurred in p...

Dendritic cell have been recognized as most potent antigen presenting cells that capable of activating T cells against tumor antigen. Dendritic cells were first discovered by Steinman RM & Cohn ZA et al. [1]. He was awarded Nobel Prize in medicine in 2011 for discover of these novel cells. Expression of costimulatory molecule and ability to generate strong immune response differentiate it from ...

Increased levels of interleukin (IL)-10 have been described as a negative prognostic indicator for survival in patients with various types of cancer. IL-10 exerts tolerogenic and immunosuppressive effects on dendritic cells, which are crucial for the induction of an antitumor immune response. Blood dendritic cell antigen (BDCA)-2 and BDCA-4 are specifically expressed by CD123(bright) CD11c- pla...

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDC) constitute a small subset of normal bone marrow (BM) but have also been shown to be present, sometimes in large numbers, several hematological malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia with RUNX1 mutation, chronic myelomonocytic or, obviously, blastic plasmacytoid cell neoplasms. These reported display somewhat variable immunophenotypic features different co...

dendritic cells (dcs) play an important role in induction of cellular immune responses. it seems that dcs that reside in different organs may be distinct in their ability to  induce immune responses. this study was done to address the differences between spleen and liver dcs in induction of immune response and/or tolerance. cd11c+  dcs were separated from the liver and spleen of c57bl/6 mice an...

Dendritic cells are specialized to capture antigens, process them and present them to T cells to initiate, regulate and fine tune immune responses towards pathogens and tumours. The story of these cells began more than forty years ago and the interest for them is ever growing because of their central role in immunobiology. Dendritic cells are heterogeneous for origin, anatomical localization, p...
