Widespread observations of ecohydrological separation are interpreted by suggesting that water flowing through highly conductive soil pores resists mixing with matrix storage over periods days to months (i.e., two ‘water worlds’ exist). These interpretations imply heterogeneous flow can produce in soils, yet little mechanistic evidence exists explain this phenomenon. We quantified the between m...
Current rectification and electrokinetic flow properties in an asymmetric nanochannel a thermoplastic polyurethane membrane were investigated experimentally numerically. The with tip diameter of about 300 nm showed current rectification, which is evident only nanochannels much smaller radii (<100 nm), due to the surface material. To elucidate mechanism mathematical model consisting Nernst - Pla...
The Effects of Increased Intracranial Pressure on Flow Through Major Cerebral A rteries In Vitro • The effect of transmural pressure (TMP) (intraluminal minus extraluminal pressure) on flow was measured for 26 isolated major cerebral arteries from human autopsies. The maximum flow rate through an artery was determined by the perfusion pressure (PP), the maximum vessel caliber, and the presence ...
The dramatic effect of flow through macropores and hardpan fissures on artificial drainage in shallow sloping soils is demonstrated. Implications of these preferential flow mechanisms on drainage design and water management are discussed. In designing drainage systems on these types of soils, more emphasis should be given to the characteristics of the hardpan.
Propositional Typicality Logic (PTL) is a recently proposed logic, obtained by enriching classical propositional logic with a typicality operator. In spite of the non-monotonic features introduced by the semantics adopted for the typicality operator, the obvious Tarskian definition of entailment for PTL remains monotonic and is therefore not appropriate. We investigate different (semantic) vers...

Macropore aging technique that is widely used in medical diagnosis. This technique has never been applied to soils. The objective of this study flow results in rapid movement of water and so...
Understanding the major controls on water flow and solute transport at the hillslope scale remains a major topic of research despite numerous hillslope experiments at different sites around the world. For example, the influence of lateral preferential flow due to pipes or macropores in the subsurface flow is still unresolved. Experiments show the often paradoxical finding of fast entry of event...
Previous hemodynamic studies of patients with septal defects, or patent ductus arteriosus, have been made with the patient recumbent in the horizontal posture. Our studies indicate unexpected changes in pulmonary blood flow with the upright posture, and often further increments in flow during walking that are different from those reported for exercise in recumbency. It is suggested that such de...
