The problem discussed in this paper is the symmetric best low multilinear rank approximation of third-order symmetric tensors. We propose an algorithm based on Jacobi rotations, for which symmetry is preserved at each iteration. Two numerical examples are provided indicating the need of such algorithms. An important part of the paper consists of proving that our algorithm converges to stationar...

In this paper we propose an approach for clustering a given cricket video by an unsupervised technique. The algorithm is based on one threshold basic sequential algorithm. We propose an unsupervised clustering technique to group the similar shots in a given cricket video into clusters such that the maximum mutual information is preserved. In this we use mutual information to measure the similar...

The dynamic reconfiguration of the interconnection network is an advanced feature of some multicomputers. It allows to reduce the communication overhead, improving the performance. In a previous paper [6], we presented a reconfiguration algorithm based on a cost function. It reconfigured the network in such a way that the original topology was preserved. However, that algorithm did not take int...

Min Storage is an NP–hard optimization problem that arises in a natural way when one considers computations in which the amount of energy provided with the input values is preserved during the computation. In this paper we propose a polynomial time membrane algorithm that computes approximate solutions to the instances of Min Storage, and we study its behavior on (almost) uniformly randomly cho...

An algorithm for adaptive on-line planning of environmental exploration missions with a team of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) is proposed. The algorithm has the primary goal of determining an estimate of the sampled environmental quantity with an estimation error below a prescribed threshold. The additional degree of freedom of the algorithm is exploited to spread the team over the expl...

The proverbial gold standard for evaluating prosthesis-patient mis-match (PPM) is the effective orifice area index. This is attributable to the inverse relationship that exists between the effective orifice area index and mean gradient. 1 Other tools have been promoted to identify PPM but have not withstood scrutiny. 1 In a recent edition of Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging, Chacko et al 2 p...

A class of self-designing clinical trials is considered which according to an effective but simple, finite learning algorithm consists of automatically adaptively planned weighted group sequential trials with a decision about rejection of the null-hypothesis at each step, but the full level-alpha-test at the end of the study preserved.

BACKGROUND Probabilistic record linkage is a process used to bring together person-based records from within the same dataset (de-duplication) or from disparate datasets using pairwise comparisons and matching probabilities. The linkage strategy and associated match probabilities are often estimated through investigations into data quality and manual inspection. However, as privacy-preserved da...

This paper presents the Adaptive Sharpening with Overshoot Control (ASOC), an algorithm for digital image contrast enhancement. The ASOC exploits a properly defined band-pass filter in order to better discriminate the "uniform/not uniform" zones of the input (blurred) image. A more aggressive sharpening is then performed on the textured zones, whilst the homogeneous regions are preserved.
