A time-optimal procedure to transpose in situ a matrix stored over a distributedmemory 2-dimensional mesh connected parallel computer is shown. The matrix need not be square. Only nearest-neighbor blocking communications is used, and small bounded buffer space is required.

We demonstrate a tunable electron-blocking layer to enhance the performance of an Earth-abundant metal-oxide solar-cell material. A 5 nm thick amorphous ternary metal-oxide buffer layer reduces interface recombination, resulting in sizable open-circuit voltage and efficiency enhancements. This work emphasizes the importance of interface engineering in improving the performance of Earth-abundant...

In August 2012, the Houston Department of Health contacted CDC regarding the rare transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) likely by sexual contact between two women. The case was investigated, and laboratory testing confirmed that the woman with newly diagnosed HIV infection had a virus virtually identical to that of her female partner, who was diagnosed previously with HIV and who h...

FORTY-FIVE years after Beecher and Todd 1 first described an increase in mortality associated with the use of D-tubocurarine, anesthesiologists are still learning how best to use neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) and their antagonists. Practices regarding antagonism of residual neuromuscular block vary based on the country of practice, type of anesthetic practice, and individual clinician p...

This paper examines the measures of performance and in particular addresses the throughput of an automated production line processing multiple products. The line is composed of a sequence of workstations connected in series with finite buffers in between. We explore the effects of buffer size on attenuating the impact of line blocking and starvation that can cause a reduction in the output. Suc...

Most of the real life multi server queuing systems have heterogeneous servers which means each service rates are different than each other. Analysis of such queuing system plays important role to improve performance. In this report, I have summarized analysis of heterogeneous multi server queuing system which has a finite and an infinite buffer. Average waiting time and average queue length are...

In this paper the effect of dynamic wavelength allocation (DWA) scheme implementation to the OBS node performance is investigated. We have developed the mathematical model of an OBS node in order to evaluate the burst blocking probability. It is proposed to allocate a part of total wavelength capacity to be used by deflected bursts only. The results obtained from the model show that if the numb...

In this paper we study single-server tandem queues with general service times and finite buffers. Jobs are served according to the Blocking-After-Service protocol. To approximately determine the throughput and mean sojourn time, we decompose the tandem queue into single-buffer subsystems, the service times of which include starvation and blocking, and then iteratively estimate the unknown param...

It is desirable to facilitate data communications among concurrent computation threads without incurring non-essential synchronizations in real-time computing systems. An interaction mechanism, called the non-blocking writer (NBW) mechanism and invented by Kopetz, is useful in facilitating state message communication from a producer to a consumer thread in real-time applications. A more widely ...

Omega Networks are a famous subclass of blocking Multistage Interconnection Networks (MINs). They have been recently identified as an efficient interconnection network for a switching fabric of communication structures such as gigabit ethernet switch, terabit router, and ATM switch. Interconnection network performance is also a key factor when constructing multiprocessor systems. In this paper ...
