Renal phospholipid metabolism was studied after ischemia was induced by occlusion of the left renal artery in the rat. There was no change in the rate of cellular [14C]choline uptake after 25 or 60 minutes of ischemia. However, [14C]choline incorporation into phospholipid was two to three times greater in slices from the ischemic kidney than in slices from the contralateral control kidney. The ...

The plasma disappearance rate (metabolic clearance rate) of administered intact parathyroid hormone (intact PTH) was analyzed in awake dogs with indwelling hepatic and renal vein catheters. The metabolic clearance rate (MCR) of intact PTH was found to be very rapid, 21.6 +/- 3.1 ml/min per kg in 11 normal dogs. The liver accounted for the greatest fraction of the MCR of intact PTH (61 +/- 4%) b...

Tissue uptake and distribution of retinol from circulatory vitamin A transport complex was studied in order to determine the origin of the increased serum retinol in rats with short-term acute renal failure. In rats with acute renal failure, serum retinol increased 37-70% within 2 h after surgery. After an injection of donor plasma containing 1.8 muCi of [3H]retinol in retinol transport complex...

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE Studies using radionuclides are the most appropriate method for estimating renal function. Dimercaptosuccinic acid chelate labeled with technetium-99m (99mTc-DMSA) is the radiopharmaceutical of choice for high-resolution imaging of the renal cortex and estimation of the functional renal mass. The aim of this study was to evaluate a simplified method for determining the abs...

Release of glucose by the kidney in postabsorptive normal humans is generally regarded as being wholly due to gluconeogenesis. Although lactate is the most important systemic gluconeogenic precursor and there is appreciable net renal lactate uptake, renal lactate gluconeogenesis has not yet been investigated. The present studies were therefore undertaken to quantitate the contribution of lactat...

Melanocortin-1 (MC1) receptor is an attractive melanoma-specific target for the development of α-MSH peptide based imaging and therapeutic agents. In this work a new lactam bridge α-MSH analogue was synthesized and radiolabeled with 99mTc via HYNIC chelator and tricine as co-ligand. Also, stability in human serum, receptor bound internalization and tissue biodistribution in tumor bearing nude m...

F-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography imaging (F-18 FDG PET) detects malignancies depending on the uptake profile of glycolysis of tumors; however, the role of FDG PET is limited in the evaluation of primary renal malignancy because of low FDG uptake by renal cell carcinoma and also because normal urinary excretion of FDG seen in the images. A patient with renal cell carcinoma wh...

A 54-year-old otherwise healthy Caucasian male was referred to us for further management of an enlarging left heterogeneous peri-renal mass. The patient had been initially followed with serial imaging by his primary care physician, who had been monitoring the mass since it was first detected 2 years earlier, when it was 2.9cm in size. Most recent CT scan showed a 4.7 cm mass, located posteriorl...

UNLABELLED Organic cation transporters (OCTs) in the kidney proximal tubule (PT) participate in renal excretion of drugs and endogenous compounds. PT function is commonly impaired in kidney diseases, and consequently quantitative measurement of OCT function may provide an important estimate of kidney function. Metformin is a widely used drug and targets OCT type 2 located in the PT. Thus, we hy...

The relationship between differential renal uptake of Tc-99m 2-3 dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) and differential renal function was examined in normal and abnormal dogs by correlating Tc-99m DMSA localization with relative renal blood flow and creatining clearance. There was close correlation of fractional Tc-99m DMSA localization with relative renal function.
