Carbon isotope distribution of [13C]citrinin from Monascus ruber incubated with [13C]acetate revealed that the biosynthesis of the toxin originated from a tetraketide, instead of a pentaketide as has been shown for Penicillium and Aspergillus species. The production of polyketide red pigments and citrinin by M. ruber may therefore be regulated at the level of the tetraketide branch point.

This study was carried out to determine the optimal parameters for the production of biomass of trichoderma virens UKMP-1M, a fungus isolated from oil-polluted wastewater. The isolate showed maximum growth at day six after incubation in Mineral Salt Medium (MSM) in the presence of 3% (v/v) heavy Khefji Sour crude oil. Although it grew at pH between 5.0 and 7.0, it grew best at pH 5.5. t. virens...

We report a case of invasive gastric infection caused by Monascus ruber observed in a patient from French Guiana with gastric adenocarcinoma. The originality of this case is that, first, this invasive mycosis is extremely rare and, second, the probable mode of infection was by the consumption of Monascus ruber-contaminated food.

Editor: Brent Emerson Abstract Aim: Many studies have investigated the phylogeographic history of species on the Baja California Peninsula, and they often show one or more genetic breaks that are spatially concordant among many taxa. These phylogeographic breaks are commonly attributed to vicariance as a result of geological or climatic changes, followed by secondary contact when barriers are n...

dear editor,i read with interest article that published entitled *isolation and identification of bioactive compound producing rhodococcus spp. isolated from soil samples {ijmcm/5(1) (2015) 463-468}* [1]. some of the genus such as nocardia, gordonia, mycobacterium and rhodococcus are in actinomycete family and they are gram-positive and partially acid-fast. rhodococcus species usually stain gra...

BACKGROUND Effects of prenatal iron supplementation on maternal postpartum iron status and early infant iron homeostasis remain largely unknown. OBJECTIVE We examined iron absorption and growth in exclusively breastfed infants in relation to fetal iron exposure and iron status during early infancy. DESIGN Longitudinal, paired iron-absorption (⁵⁸Fe) studies were conducted in 59 exclusively b...

Biofilms, the preferred bacterial mode of living and survival, are employed by most microorganisms—which tend to attach to surfaces—to gain physical support, increase nutrient utilization and availability, and augment their resistance against anti-bacterial agents. Rhodococcus ruber (C208) has been shown to form a dense biofilm on polyethylene surfaces while degrading them. Bacterial biofilms c...

The CD1 family of Ag-presenting molecules is able to display lipids to T cells by binding them within a hydrophobic groove connected to the protein surface. In particular, the CD1b isotype is capable of binding ligands with greatly varying alkyl chain lengths through a complex network of interconnected hydrophobic pockets. Interestingly, mycobacterial lipids such as glucose monomycolate exclusi...
