Change detection for objects associated with a surface extended in depth might be more difficult than for a frontal surface if it is easier to shift attention within a frontal surface. On the other hand, previous research has shown that ground surfaces have a special role in organizing the 3-D layout of objects shown against scene backgrounds. In the current study, we examined whether a frontal...

In this paper, we present an approach for speaker change detection in broadcast video using joint audio-visual scene change statistics. Our experiments indicate that using joint audio-visual statistics we achieve better recall without loss of precision as compared to purely audio domain approaches for speaker change detection.

Saliency models of eye guidance during scene perception suggest that attention is drawn to visually conspicuous areas having high visual salience. Despite such low-level visual processes controlling the allocation of attention, higher level information gained from scene knowledge may also control eye movements. This is supported by the findings of eye-tracking studies demonstrating that scene-i...

This paper addresses the problem of change detection from a novel perspective of long-term map learning. We are particularly interested in designing an approach that can scale to large maps and that can function under global uncertainty in the viewpoint (i.e., GPS-denied situations). Our approach, which utilizes a compact bag-of-words (BoW) scene model, makes several contributions to the proble...

Although the ability to notice a change in the visual scene has been used as an investigative tool to gain new insights on visual system mechanisms, it has recently become an issue itself. In the last decade, many studies have addressed the flip side of change detection, namely the change blindness phenomenon. Change blindness refers to functional blindness for an otherwise visible change in th...

We propose an algorithm to detect scene changes in a video sequence in the compressed domain. We define a feature vector extracted from each frame that we call the generalized trace. We examine various ways of processing the generalized trace to determine the temporal location of scene changes in a video stream.

An algorithm is proposed for the detection of abrupt scene change and special editing effects such as dissolve in a compressed MPEG/MPEG-2 bitstream with minimal decoding of the bitstream. Scene changes are easily detected with DCT DC coefficients and motion vectors. By performing minimal decoding on the compressed bitstream, the processing speed for searching a video database of compressed ima...

Digital watermarking method is a good technique to protect the copyright ownership of electronic data. In the present paper, we propose a new digital video watermarking scheme based on detection of different shots from the video for embedding identical watermark to the similar frames and dissimilar watermarks in dissimilar frames. Visual cryptography is included in the proposed scheme for encry...
