Spiral groove entrapment neuropathy is a compression that can occur for various reasons due to the superficial course of radial nerve at level spiral groove. Since repetitive movements play role in development mechanism neuropathy, compelling and triceps muscle may predispose neuropathy. In this case, 61-year-old male patient who developed low hand after long-term use lawnmower presented. The w...

INTRODUCTION Presently, there are few studies addressing the subject of peripheral neuropathy in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Consequently, there is a dearth of evidence and awareness of subclinical neuropathy in stable COPD patients with no significant hypoxaemia, particularly in the age group of 40-60 years. The present study was designed to evaluate the subclin...

This study investigated sensory and motor nerve excitability properties to elucidate the development of diabetic neuropathy. A total of 109 type 2 diabetes patients were recruited, and 106 were analyzed. According to neuropathy severity, patients were categorized into G0, G1, and G2+3 groups using the total neuropathy score-reduced (TNSr). Patients in the G0 group were asymptomatic and had a TN...

Three patients with the sicca syndrome and chronic sensory neuropathy are described; in two of them neuropathy was the presenting feature of the disease. The sicca syndrome can give rise to a characteristic neurological syndrome comprising areflexia and asymmetrical sensory loss, particularly of proprioception, in the limbs. This is often associated with tonic pupils and trigeminal anaesthesia.

The association between hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy (HMSN) and optic atrophy has been termed HMSN type VI. The autosomal dominant inheritance of this syndrome is reported. Three generations were affected with optic atrophy, which differed in some respects from classic dominant optic atrophy, and an asymptomatic, mainly sensory, neuropathy.

Trigeminal sensory neuropathy may result from a wide variety of factors , including tumors of the trigeminal ganglion or spinal trigeminal tract, demyelinating diseases, and connective tissue disorders. Despite a long list of possibilities, the cause often is difficult to establish , and thus many cases are described as idiopathic. We report an unusual case of trigeminal sensory neuropathy caus...

The Riley-Day syndrome is the most common of the hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies (Type III). Among the well-recognized clinical features are reduced pain and temperature sensation, absent deep tendon reflexes and a progressively ataxic gait. To explain the latter we tested the hypothesis that muscle spindles, or their afferents, are absent in hereditary sensory and autonomic neuro...

Administration of oxaliplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy used extensively in the treatment of colorectal cancer, is complicated by prominent dose-limiting neurotoxicity. Acute neurotoxicity develops following oxaliplatin infusion and resolves within days, while chronic neuropathy develops progressively with higher cumulative doses. To investigate the pathophysiology of oxaliplatin-induced n...

PURPOSE Sensory peripheral neuropathy is a common and sometimes debilitating toxicity associated with paclitaxel therapy. This study aims to identify genetic risk factors for the development of this toxicity. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN A prospective pharmacogenetic analysis of patients with primary breast cancer, randomized to the paclitaxel arm of CALGB 40101, was used to identify genetic predictor...

DPN can present with a wide range of symptoms, including pain, unsteadiness, weakness, postural hypotension, gastroparesis, and impotence. It can lead to foot ulceration, Charcot foot, and amputation. It is desirable to periodically assess for the presence of neuropathy and also stratify neuropathy in patients in anticipation of these problems. It is important to be aware of the strengths and l...
