A case of septicemia caused by Pseudomonas stutzeri belonging to the unusual biotype Vb-3 in a patient with multiple myeloma is described. The origin of the septicemia was attributed to a community-acquired pneumonia. The bacteriology and pathogenicity of P. stutzeri are reviewed.

We report the first case of community-acquired bacteremia with Burkholderia fungorum, a newly described member of the Burkholderia cepacia complex. A 9-year-old girl sought treatment with septic arthritis in her right knee and ankle with soft tissue involvement. Commercial identification systems did not identify the causative microorganism.

AbstractWe report the first case of Vibrio alginolyticus septicemia in the Indian Ocean (Reunion Island), in a patient (70-year-old-man) with multiple underlying conditions, following a nearly drowning in the lagoon of Reunion. From now on, V. alginolyticus should be considered as a possible agent of septicemia in the Indian Ocean, particularly following marine activities.

Molecular typing of isolates revealed that neonatal coagulase-negative staphylococcal (CONS) septicemia is most frequently caused by predominant, antibiotic-resistant CONS types, which are widely distributed among both neonates and staff of the neonatal unit, suggesting cross-contamination. Therefore, infection control measures may be valuable in the prevention of this common nosocomial septice...

Two cases of community-acquired septicemia caused by serotype-O1 Yersinia pseudotuberculosis were diagnosed in middle-aged, HIV-positive, immunodeficient patients during an 8-month period. Bacterial isolates were genetically indistinguishable, but no epidemiologic link between the 2 patients was established. HIV-related immunosuppression should be regarded as a risk factor for Y. pseudotubercul...
