Study on biological sequence database similarity searching has received substantial attention in the past decade, especially after the sequencing of the human genome. As a result, with larger and larger increases in database sizes, fast similarity search is becoming an important issue. Transforming sequences into numerical vectors, called sequence descriptors, for storing in a multidimensional ...

The fusion of a 3D reconstruction up to a similarity transformation from monocular videos and the metric positional measurements from GPS usually relies on the alignment of the two coordinate systems. When positional measurements provided by a low-cost GPS are corrupted by high-level noises, this approach becomes problematic. In this paper, we introduce a novel framework that uses similarity in...

Effective interaction operators usually act on a restricted model space and give the same energies (for Hamiltonian) and matrix elements (for transition operators, etc.) as those of the original operators between the corresponding true eigenstates. Various types of effective operators are possible. Those well defined effective operators have been shown to be related to each other by similarity ...

In this paper we present a novel approach to shape similarity estimation based on ordinal correlation. The proposed method operates in three steps: object alignment, contour to multilevel image transformation and similarity evaluation. This approach is suitable for use in CBIR. The proposed technique produced encouraging results when applied on the MPEG-7 test data.

We describe an artist recommendation system which integrates several heterogeneous data sources to form a holistic similarity space. Using social, semantic, and acoustic features, we learn a low-dimensional feature transformation which is optimized to reproduce human-derived measurements of subjective similarity between artists. By producing low-dimensional representations of artists, our syste...

This paper proposes a method for stitching multiple images together so that the stitched image looks as natural as possible. Our method adopts the local warp model and guides the warping of each image with a grid mesh. An objective function is designed for specifying the desired characteristics of the warps. In addition to good alignment and minimal local distortion, we add a global similarity ...

Representational Distortion is a new account of similarity in which the transformation distance between representations determines similarity: entities that are perceived to be similar have representations that are readily transformed into one another, whereas dissimilar entities require numerous transformations. Here we present experimental evidence in favour of this viewpoint.

This paper proposes a new intensity-based similarity metric that can be used for the registration of multimodal images. It combines the robust estimation with both the forward and inverse transformation to reduce the negative effects of outliers in the images. For this purpose, we firstly employ the multiresolution technique to downsample the original images, then resort to the simulated anneal...

The time dependent progress of a chemical reaction over a flat horizontal plate is here considered. The problem is solved through the group similarity transformation method which reduces the number of independent by one and leads to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equation. The problem shows a singularity at the chemical reaction order n=1 and is analytically solved through the perturb...

In [11] and [12] (textbooks for teachers’ training colleges written by B. Pelle) isometry and similarity are defined not in the classical way but as a product. We continue this way of definition refer to the affine transformation and collineation, and study the fundamental theorems of these mappings analogously to those of isometry and similarity.
