Recent experiments using mainly character unigram distributions in authorship attribution tasks are discussed. Results so far indicate efficacy in similarity judgements seemingly good enough for ‘balance of probabilities’ standards, but not yet for proof ‘beyond reasonable doubt’.

To demonstrate more visibly the close relation between thecontinuity and integrability, a new proof for the Banach-Zareckitheorem is presented on the basis of the Radon-Nikodym theoremwhich emphasizes on measure-type properties of the Lebesgueintegral. The Banach-Zarecki theorem says that a real-valuedfunction $F$ is absolutely continuous on a finite closed intervalif and only if it is continuo...

In this paper I criticize the current standards for the acceptability of expert testimony in current US legislation. The standards have been the subject of much academic literature after the Frye and Daubert cases. I expose what I call the Paradox of Proof, and argue that the historical and current standards have sidestepped the problem of determining who is an expert and who is not in a court ...

the effect of silence in civil litigation is important in two cases: the silence of litigants (plaintiff and defendant) and silence in evidence of proof of claim. although the general rule is that silence cannot express the will and, therefore, is not entitled to the legal effects and any responsibility, but the silence of plaintiff and defendant has been deemed refusal and it has legal effect....

We draw on the literature, established standards and practices, contemporary funded projects and ongoing proof-of-concept work to argue for accessibility advocates to capitalise on the current paradigm shift towards ubiquitous, distributed and collaborative information systems. We discuss the contemporary interaction trends and accessibility challenges that give rise to our proposal; describe a...

Institutions with proof-theoretic structure, here called ‘institutions with proofs’, provide a complete formal notion for the intuitive notion of logic, including both the model and the proof theoretic sides. This paper introduces a concept of proof rules for institutions and argues that the proof systems of the actual institutions with proofs are freely generated by their presentations as syst...

In this paper, we introduce our formalization of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. AES, which is the most widely used symmetric cryptosystem in the world, is a block cipher that was selected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as an official Federal Information Processing Standard for the United States in 2001. We prove the correctness of our formalizati...
