Even when in contact with virtually infinite reservoirs, natural and manmade oscillators typically drift in phase space on a time-scale considerably slower than that of the intrinsic oscillator. A ubiquitous example is the inexorable aging process experienced by all living systems. Typical electrocatalytic reactions under oscillatory conditions oscillate for only a few dozen stable cycles due t...
We present a higher order accurate discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for the simulation of linear free-surface gravity waves. The method uses the classical Runge-Kutta method for the time discretization of the free-surface equations and the discontinuous Galerkin method for the space discretization. In order to circumvent numerical instabilities arising from an asymmetric mesh a stab...
liposomes as a drug carrier have numerous dominancy. liophilization is the most propr form of these products for long-term maintenance, but this procedure is affected by unstabilizing agent that results in destruction of membrane, release of content and change in size and microbial contamination hence for prevention of the adverse effects, the protective role of sugars such as: maltose, fructos...
Using continuum dynamic van der Waals theory in a radial 1D geometry with a Lennard-Jones fluid model, we investigate the nature of vapor bubble nucleation near a heated, nanoscale-curved convex interface. Vapor bubble nucleation and growth are observed for interfaces with sufficiently large radius of curvature while phase stabilization of a superheated fluid layer occurs at interfaces with sma...
We report on the observation of surface gap solitons found to exist at the interface between uniform and periodic dielectric media with defocusing nonlinearity. We demonstrate strong self-trapping at the edge of a LiNbO3 waveguide array and the formation of staggered surface solitons with propagation constant inside the first photonic band gap. We study the crossover between linear repulsion an...
We prove that under rather general assumptions an exactly controllable problem is uniformly stabilizable with arbitrarily prescribed decay rates. Our approach is direct and constructive and avoids many of the technical difficulties associated with the usual methods based on Riccati equations. We give several applications for the wave equation and for Petrovsky systems.
