Tracer gas studies and oxygen uptake measurements have shown that pressurized gas transport improves oxygen supply to roots in the wetland tree species Taxodium distichum L. Rich. (Taxodiaceae), Betula pubescens J.F. Ehrh. (Betulaceae), and Populus tremula L. (Salicaceae), but not in Acer pseudoplatanus L. and Ilex aquifolium L., which are found in drier habitats. In the deciduous tree species ...

Aquilegia formosa and pubescens are two closely related species belonging to the columbine genus. Despite their morphological and ecological differences, previous studies have revealed a large degree of intercompatibility, as well as little sequence divergence between these two taxa. We compared the inter- and intraspecific patterns of variation for 9 nuclear loci, and found that the two specie...

Materials and Methods ― Fodder and fecal samples were collected from 3 groups of 3 goats, browsing ad lib on fresh leafy Quercus pubescens branches. The 3 groups were made up of: 3 dried-up animals without supplementation; 3 lactating animals, supplemented with a urea-molasses mixture, in a digestibility cage (Meuret, 1988); and 3 lactating animals compelled to eat a pure 0 pubescens die...

Abstract Litter is the crucial carrier of soil nutrition transformation. The influence arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi on nutrient acquisition in plants has been widely recognized. However, nutrient-deficient karst habitat, how competitive utilize nutrients regulated by AM via litter remain largely unknown. experimental treatments included inoculation with or without Glomus etunicatum, additi...

AIM: This study was conducted to study the hepatoprotective property of Hemidesmus indicus (L.) R.Br. roots. METHODS: Hepatoprotective properties of the methanol extract of the roots of H. indicus var. pubescens were evaluated on paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity. Hepatotoxicity was induced in albino Wistar rats by the administration of paracetamol (1g/kg), p.o. for 7 days. Methanol extract of...

The microbial transformation of four Cinchona alkaloids (quinine, quinidine, cinchonidine, and cinchonine) by endophytic fungi isolated from Cinchona pubescens was investigated. The endophytic filamentous fungus Xylaria sp. was found to transform the Cinchona alkaloids into their 1-N-oxide derivatives.

The action of crude ethanol extract of the stem bark of the soapberry Magonia pubescens St. Hil. was studied upon larvae of the Brown Dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latreille). Tick larvae were obtained by maintaining gravid females in an incubator, after collecting them from naturally infested kennels. The tick larvae were placed in envelopes of filter paper impregnated with different conc...
