The occurrence of permafrost in a highly permeable catchment has a profound effect on runoff generation. The presence of permafrost effectively makes the subsoil impermeable. Therefore, overland flow can be the dominant runoff-generating process during periglacial conditions. The absence of permafrost will promote subsurface drainage and, therefore, saturation excess overland flow can become th...
Wang et al. (Reports, 21 November, 2014, p. 978) describe a buried canyon upstream of the Yarlung Tsangpo Gorge and argue that rapid erosion of the gorge was merely a passive response to rapid uplift at ~2.5 million years ago (Ma). We view these data as an expected consequence emerging from feedbacks between erosion and crustal rheology active well before 2.5 Ma.
PRIME Lab has a multidisciplinary external research program with projects in geomorphology, hydrology, ocean science, planetary science, environmental science and biology. Introduction PRIME Lab is a national AMS facility for measurement of the long lived cosmogenic nuclides Be, C, Al, Cl, Ca, and I [1]. Since its inception in 1991 we have chemically processed over 2000 samples and have measure...
The article emphasizes the need to prepare training manuals on geomorphology of large land areas. relief continents (their parts) and parts world is an object regional geomorphology. author substantiates structure content textbook "The Europe", first written in Ukrainian continents. manual consists introduction, 2 chapters, conclusions a list references. uses 6 schematic maps, 9 digital tables,...
In northern parts of Iran such as the Alborz Mountain belt, frequent landslides occur due to a combination of climate and geologic conditions with high tectonic activities. This results in millions of dollars of financial damages annually excluding casualties and unrecoverable resources. This paper evaluates the landslide susceptible areas in Central Alborz using the probabilistic frequency rat...
Detailed description of the geology, topography and terraces of the Danube Bend was presented in Chapter 3. “Traditional” terrace ages concerning this area were derived from “relevant” data of the neighbouring valley sections, as lack of datable material prevented the Danube Bend terraces from setting up a more reliable chronological frame. Application of a new dating method was necessary to qu...
Abstract Tectonically controlled topography influences deep-water sedimentary systems. Using 3-D seismic reflection data from the Levant Basin, eastern Mediterranean Sea, we investigate spatial and temporal evolution of bedforms on a fan cut by an active normal fault. In footwall, comprises cyclic steps antidunes along its axial external portions, respectively, which interpret to result variati...
The fields of hydrology and fluvial geomorphology get more and more attention in the general public. The reason for this is changed climate patterns with increased frequencies of storms and river flooding and as a result changed geomorphology and living conditions for the inhabitants of the area. With the development of 3D geovisualization, hydrological and geomorphological processes can be bet...
Submitted to the Texas Water Development Board 2 PREFACE This report is submitted in fulfillment of contract no. 2005-483-564 between the Texas Water Development Board and Jonathan Phillips (doing business as Copperhead Road Geoscience). The report is presented in two more-or-less independent parts, reflecting the Scope of Work for the project. The first is a review and evaluation of geomorphic...
