This paper first briefly describes an approach to constructing real-time, high-performance multi-agent systems called agent-oriented programming (AOP). The main part of the paper illustrates the application of this approach by showing how it can be used in telephone network management. Finally, a prototype telephone traffic manager agent is described. This prototype agent has been implemented a...

Mobile agents are autonomous, asynchronous and, optionally, intelligent software entities which can migrate to and reside in a number of network nodes. In our proposal mobile agents are used for collecting subscriber information on the terminal side in mobile communication networks. Mobile agents are sent out by the network part for collecting information, such as location area identifier and c...

Two-way group voice communications, otherwise known as teleconferencing are common in commercial and defense networks. One of the main features of military teleconferences is the need to provide means to enforce the Multilevel Security (MLS) model. In this paper we propose an architecture and protocols facilitating MLS conferences over Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). We develop protoc...

Recently we have developed a mixed initiative based dialogue technology, for telephone applications, paying particular attention to its portability to different domains. It works with continuous speech and can manage different contexts. A prototype system has been built for a train timetable inquiry domain. Using this system more than 70 dialogues have been collected and annotated and correspon...

This paper describes the adaptation and certification process for switching equipment to be used in the Russian public switched telephone network (PSTN). The first part of the paper illustrates the basic certification procedure and its essential steps. Each step, whether it is described in a natural language or formally in a specification language SDL, is an integral part of the certification p...

To operate successfully, most large distributed systems depend on software, hardware, and human operators and maintainers to function correctly. Failure of any one of these elements can dis rupt or bring down an entire system. One such distributed system, the US Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), is the US portion of pos sibly the largest distributed system in existence.1 Like all tele...

In a telephone link, the voice timbre is affected by the loss of low frequencies components and distortions due to the analog lines. We analyze first how the quantization noise limits the restoration of the timbre. Within this limitation, a method of equalization, inspired by the cepstral subtraction, is then proposed to correct the timbre and is validated by experimental results.

Introduction In the last two chapters we will discuss two applications for probability modeling. In this chapter Probability modeling in Traffic Engineering will be addressed and in the next chapter Probability modeling in Medical Imaging will be addressed. The design of telephone switching system and networks in the early 1900's took into consideration the random arrival pattern of customers i...

PHS/DECT networks are “micro-cellular” radio access systems. Unlike cellular or 3G (third-generation) wireless networks they don’t require comprehensive, expensive supporting network architectures. Instead they inter-work with existing systems, such as PBXs (private branch exchanges), the PSTN (public switched telephone network), cellular networks, and ISDN (integrated services digital network)...
