Enantiomerically pure tertiary thiols provide a major synthetic challenge, and despite the importance of chiral sulfur-containing compounds in biological and medicinal chemistry, surprisingly few effective methods are suitable for the asymmetric synthesis of tertiary thiols. This review details the most practical of the methods available.

The inhibitive effect of a few thiols were examined as corrosion inhibitors for the corrosion of zinc in 1N HCl and 1N H2SO4 by conventional weight loss and gasometric methods. Results obtained show that all the thiols exhibited high inhibition efficiencies. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in the inhibitor concentration. The adsorption of the inhibitors obeyed Temk...

The NHC-catalyzed thioesterification of aromatic or aliphatic aldehydes with a range of thiols was developed in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of an organic oxidant. Among the oxidants examined, phenazine was shown to give the best results in terms of chemical yield and compatibility with thiols.

We have developed a method based on self-assembly of thiols on Au substrates to immobilize membrane proteins at interfaces. Using water soluble nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA)-terminated oligo(ethylene glycol) thiols, a histidine-tagged G protein-coupled membrane receptor (GPCR) was captured in a defined orientation with little nonspecific binding.

The syntheses of three decalin-based tert-thiols displaying varying degrees of solubility in aqueous milieu are described. The S-nitroso derivatives of these compounds have also been prepared and the structures of two of these determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. These compounds have been designed for studying the interaction of nitric oxide (NO) with thiols under physiological condi...

A diselenide containing fluorescent probe based on a fluorescein scaffold for thiols was developed. The fluorescent probe exhibited rapid response, high selectivity and reversibility. Confocal fluorescence microscopy was used to visualize the redox changes mediated by thiols and reactive oxygen species in living HeLa cells.

We have developed an efficient palladium-catalyzed carbon-sulfur bond formation reaction of aryl bromides, triflates, and activated aryl chloride. Using this protocol, we have shown tolerance to a wide variety of aryl thiols and alkyl thiols that can also be used as sulfide equivalents. [reaction: see text]

Due to unique physico-chemical properties of –SH moiety thiols comprise wide group of biologically important compounds. A review devoted to biological functions of glutathione and phytochelatins with literature survey of methods used to analysis of these compounds and their interactions with cadmium(II) ions and Murashige-Skoog medium is presented. For these purposes electrochemical techniques ...

Rationale:Androgenetic alopecia is not considered a life threatening disease but can have serious impacts on the patient's psychosocial life. Genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors are considered responsible for the presence of androgenetic alopecia. Recent literature reports have proved the presence of inflammation and also of oxidative stress at the level of dermal papilla cells of pati...

DNA platination by cisplatin (CDDP) was investigated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and ovarian cancer cells using atomic absorption spectroscopy. Plots showing the amount of platinum (Pt) bound to DNA versus the molar concentration of cisplatin in the incubation medium ([CDDP]) were nonlinear. For [CDDP] < about 5 microM, the amount of Pt bound to DNA increased slowly with added drug. H...
