we report a case of human nasal myiasis caused by flower fly larva in a 14-year-old rural girl in central province of iran. entomological studies on larva showed the larva as eristalis tenax which is a rarely cause of nasal myiasis. this is the first reported case of e. tenax larva causing human nasal myiasis in iran.
The role of the disaccharide trehalose, its biosynthesis pathways and their regulation in Archaea are still ambiguous. In Thermoproteus tenax a fused trehalose-6-phosphate synthase/phosphatase (TPSP), consisting of an N-terminal trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) and a C-terminal trehalose-6-phosphate phosphatase (TPP) domain, was identified. The tpsp gene is organized in an operon with a put...
BACKGROUND Trichomonas vaginalis has an unusually large genome (approximately 160 Mb) encoding approximately 60,000 proteins. With the goal of beginning to understand why some Trichomonas genes are present in so many copies, we characterized here a family of approximately 123 Trichomonas genes that encode transmembrane adenylyl cyclases (TMACs). METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS The large family...
The Identification and evaluation of Trichomonas vaginalis among women was performed over a period of three months in Ilesha. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Trichomonas vaginalis in women in relation to different samples collected and level of education. 310 samples from high vaginal, endocervical and urethral regions of female patients were analyzed using Gram stainin...
Trichomonas vaginalis is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) causing vaginitis. Microscopy has poor sensitivity but is used for diagnosis of trichomoniasis in resource-poor settings. We aimed to provide a more reliable diagnosis of trichomoniasis by investigating an association with leukorrhea. Women presenting for evaluation of vaginal discharge, STI exposure, or preventative gynecol...
There is a strong need for certified reference materials in the quality assurance of nonionic soil contaminant bioavailability estimations through physicochemical methods. We applied desorption extraction, method recently standardized as ISO16751, to determine bioavailable concentration most commonly regulated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), benzo( )pyrene (BaP), industrial BCR-524 with ...
Two chemical approaches, Tenax extraction and matrix solid phase microextraction (matrix-SPME), were evaluated as surrogates to estimate bioavailability of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from field-contaminated sediment. Aroclor 1254 was the primary contaminant found in sediment from Crab Orchard Lake in Marion, Illinois, USA, and a total of 18 PCB congeners were selected for study. Bioaccumu...
Trichomonas vaginalis is the causative agent of trichomoniasis, a common cause vaginitis. Despite being readily diagnosed and treatable sexually transmitted disease (STD), trichomoniasis not reportable infection its control has received relatively little emphasis from public health STD programs. It one most non-viral infections worldwide. associated with potentially serious complications such a...
