A total of seventeen species belonging to thirteen genera of fungi were isolated from soil samples collected from diverse part of city Bareilly during November 2012 to March 2013 at three intervals. The mycoflora were isolated on Yeast powder soluble starch (YpSs) agar added with antibacterial substances streptomycin. Identification and characterization of the mycoflora were made with the help ...

The performance of antibody detection, antigen detection, and Aspergillus genus-specific PCR for diagnosing Aspergillus meningitis was investigated with 26 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples obtained from a single patient with proven infection caused by Aspergillus fumigatus. Immunoglobulin G antibodies directed against Aspergillus were not detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in CSF or...

BACKGROUND Early diagnosis and treatment of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) improves outcome. METHODS We compared the performance of publicly available pan-Aspergillus, Aspergillus fumigatus-, and Aspergillus terreus-specific real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays with the Platelia galactomannan (GM) assay in 150 bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples from lung transplant recip...

OBJECTIVES The nosocomial infections by Aspergillus species are associated with constructions and increased dust loads in hospital indoors. Our main object was to find the environmental sources of Aspergillus species causing hospital acquired infections. MATERIALS AND METHODS The clinical and environmental samplings were performed during 18 months from spring 2010 to summer 2011 in Imam educa...

A thermophilic fungal strain producing both pectinase and polygalacturonase was isolated after primary screening of 120 different isolates. The fungus was identified as Aspergillus fumigatus Fres. MTCC 4163. Using solid-state cultivation, the optimum levels of variables for pectinase and polygalacturonase (PG) production were determined. Maximal levels of enzyme activities were achieved upon gr...

We report the complete genome of Aspergillus terreus (KM017963), a tropical soil isolate. The genome sequence is 29 Mb, with a G+C content of 51.12%. The genome sequence of A. terreus shows the presence of the complete gene cluster responsible for lovastatin (an anti-cholesterol drug) production in a single scaffold (1.16).

Aflatoxin is a carcinogenic contaminant of many commodities that are infected by Aspergillus flavus Nonaflatoxigenic strains of A. flavus have been utilized as biological control agents. Here, we report the genome sequences from three biocontrol strains. This information will be useful in developing markers for postrelease monitoring of these fungi.

T he mould Aspergillus, a genus of spore forming fungi, affects the respiratory system in more ways than one. The clinical spectrum of Aspergillus involvement of the lungs ranges from various hypersensitivity manifestations to invasive disease which can be fatal. The inhaled spores hardly affect healthy persons but in asthmatic subjects these spores are trapped in the viscid secretions found in...
