This paper describes the implementation of a realtime wavelet-based video codec using a new fast, non-embedded compression scheme closely related to the SPIHT algorithm by Said and Pearlman. The implementation employs block differencing for inter-frame compression and inter-block run-length encoding for even better live video compression performance. Some implementation issues are also discussed.
