Influenza A pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus RNA was detected by reverse transcription-PCR in 144 clinical samples from Bonn, Germany. A common rapid antigen-based test detected the virus in only 11.1% of these samples. The paramount feature of rapid test-positive samples was high virus concentration. Antigen-based rapid tests appear unsuitable for virologic diagnostics in the current pandemic.
PURPOSE The methylation of high-in-normal-1 (HIN-1) gene promoter in undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is studied. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN The methylation status of HIN-1 in NPC cell lines, primary NPC, paired nasopharyngeal swabs, paired throat-rinsing fluid, and paired peripheral blood was assessed by methylation-specific PCR assay. The relationship between HIN-1 promoter methylat...
conclusions the prevalence of hbv infection among donors in duhok was comparable with those of reports from other parts of iraq. education and immunization should be initiated to target the high-risk groups. furthermore, a community-based study is recommended to study the prevalence of hbv and hcv infection in the population. background the prevalence of blood borne viral infection is escalatin...
Avian Influenza (AI) is a viral respiratory disease of domestic and wild birds. In the diagnostic laboratory, it is essential to have methods for rapid detection of avian respiratory viruses. Cloacal swabs collected from chickens experimentally infected with H9 subtype AI virus, used in a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay for detection of AI. In infected animals, ...
Primer-independent cDNA synthesis during reverse transcription hinders quantitative analysis of bidirectional mRNA synthesis in eukaryotes as well as in cells infected with RNA viruses. We report a simple RT-PCR-based assay for strand-specific gene-expression analysis. By modifying the cDNA sequence during reverse transcription, the opposite strands of target sequences can be simultaneously det...
Avianmetapneumovirus (aMPV), also known as avian pneumovirus or turkey rhinotracheitis virus, is the causative agent of turkey rhinotracheitis and swollen head syndrome in chickens. Four aMPV subgroups (A-D) have been reported previously based on their genetic and antigenic differences. Evidence suggests that the live bird markets (LBMs) play an important role in the epidemiology of the avian v...
Aims-(1) To investigate the expression of the four main hormones of the digestive tract by performing reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) on a series of samples, comprising tumoral and healthy colonic tissues, hepatic metastases and colonic cell line samples; and (2) to study the patterns of labelling obtained with serological and morphological markers.Methods-After extract...
Inhibition of Japanese encephalitis virus proliferation by long non-coding RNA SUSAJ1 in PK-15 cells
Abstract Background Japanese encephalitis virus is a mosquito-borne neurotropic flavivirus that causes acute viral in humans. Pigs are crucial amplifier host of JEV. Recently, increasing evidence has shown long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles infection. Methods JEV proliferation was evaluated after overexpression or knockdown lncRNA-SUSAJ1 using western blotting and reverse-trans...
Aralia elata is an important medicinal plant in China; it produces large amounts of oleanane type triterpene saponins. A full-length cDNA encoding β-amyrin synthase (designated as AeAS) was isolated from young leaves of A. elata by reverse transcription-PCR. The full-length cDNA of AeAS was found to have a 2292-bp open reading frame, encoding a protein with 763 amino acid residues. The ded...
