Recombinant DNA technologies enable the direct isolation and expression of novel genes from biotopes containing complex consortia of uncultured microorganisms. In this study, genomic libraries were constructed from microbial DNA isolated from insect intestinal tracts from the orders Isoptera (termites) and Lepidoptera (moths). Using a targeted functional assay, these environmental DNA libraries...

Cellulase and xylanase have been widely studied for bioconversion processes applied in various industries. The high cost of these enzymes remains to be the major bottleneck large-scale commercial application lignocellulosic biorefinery. use agroindustrial residues weeds as fermentation substrates is an important strategy increase cellulolytic production reduce costs. Penicillium crustosum was n...

Part of the role which arabinoxylan (AX) plays in bread making relates to its impact on bulk rheology dough. However, actual mechanisms by it influences dough are still not well understood. An evident research approach is use endo-?-1,4-xylanases (XYLs) hydrolyze AX and hence increase their solubility. Here, population (i) wheat (ii) mixed cereal doughs made from blends flour (WF) rye (RF) was ...

Two different xylanases, CX-I and CX-II, from an alkalophilic fungus, Cephalosporium sp. strain RYM-202, have been purified to homogeneity. The enzymes had similar pH (7.5 to 8.0) and temperature (50(deg)C) optima and were stable over a wide pH range of 5.5 to 12.0. Both enzymes were shown to be cellulase-free endoxylanases with transglycosidation activity.

BACKGROUND Family 11 alkaline xylanases have great potential economic applications in the pulp and paper industry. In this study, we would improve the alkalophilicity of family 11 alkaline xylanase Xyn11A-LC from Bacillus sp. SN5, for the better application in this field. RESULTS A random mutation library of Xyn11A-LC with about 10,000 clones was constructed by error-prone PCR. One mutant, M5...

BACKGROUND Xylanase degrades xylan into monomers of various sizes by catalyzing the endohydrolysis of the 1,4-β-D-xylosidic linkage randomly, possessing potential in wide industrial applications. Most of xylanases are susceptible to be inactive when suffering high temperature and high alkaline process. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a high amount of effective thermoalkaliphilic xylanases...
