This work studies the feasibility of the use of a combined physical-biological remediation procedure for treatment of effluents contaminated with molinate, where the herbicide is removed through adsorption and biodegraded in a subsequent stage, with the regeneration of the adsorbent. In order to select the most adequate absorbent for molinate, different materials were tested, namely pine bark, ...
Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used in the study to optimize the production of vanillin from isoeugenol through fermentation by Aspergillus niger I-1472. Three factors were studied which include amount of isoeugenol, resin (Amberlite XAD-4) and Span 80. During fermentation, isoeugenol as substrate were vortexed with Span 80 and added into the culture on Day 4. Resin (Amberlite XAD-4) wa...
Techniques are described for the coating of sorbents to be used in an artificial liver support system based on mixed sorbent bed hemoperfusion. Activated charcoal has been coated with cellulose acetate (CA) by solvent evaporation. With Amberlite XAD-4, the Wurster technique was used for coating with CA. XAD-4 has also been coated with a synthetic polyelectrolyte with anticoagulant activity by a...
The removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solutions by using modified Amberlite XAD-7HP resin has been studied. The resins have been prepared by complete mixing of Amberlite XAD-7HP resin with anionic surfactant-dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate (DOSSS) and EDTA-disodium salt (Chelating agent) in an aqueous solution. SEM studies revealed the morphological observations of the unloaded adsorbent and thereb...
We evaluated the competitive fitness of three phenanthrene-mineralizing isolates that were provided with nonsorbed or sorbed phenanthrene in competition experiments. One isolate had a clear advantage when presented with Amberlite IRC-50-sorbed phenanthrene, yet none were favored when presented with nonsorbed or Amberlite XAD-7-sorbed phenanthrene. Our results indicate that contaminant availabil...
Passive samplers have been widely used for volatile organic compounds determination. Following the green chemistry tendency of the direct determination of adsorbed compounds in membrane-based devices through using head space direct chromatography analysis, this work has evaluated the use of Amberlite XAD-2, XAD-4, and XAD-16 adsorbents as a filling material for passive samplers. Direct analysis...
Novel polymeric stationary phases based on amberlite XAD-4 has been synthesized. Functionalized polymers are obtained by reactions, which involves Friedel-Crafts acetylation, oxidation and chloroformoylation of the resin. These functionalized polymers were reacted with chiral selector viz. R(+)-1-phenylethylamine and amino acid viz. methyl ester L-histidine dihydrochloride via Schotten Baumann ...
A method based on the linear model of sorption dynamics (LMSD) is applied for the comparison of several solid phase extraction systems used for preconcentration of phenol from water solutions. The method includes the calculation of maximum concentration efficiency for the given values of preconcentration factor and recovery under scope of the model. Original parameters of LMSD were obtained fro...
In pursuit for new reactive materials designed for synthesis of functional resins, the novel core-shell type polymeric supports with accessible chloromethyl groups were synthesized. The commercial Amberlite XAD-4 adsorbent was impregnated with different mixtures of vinylbenzylchloride and divinylbenzene, that were further polymerized in the structure of the polymer carrier. The syntheses have b...
The author synthesized a Green reagent N, N1-bis (4-dimethyl amino benzyl) ethylene diamine for the analysis of heavy metals namely Fe, Cd, Cr, Cu and Co by FAAS using Amberlite-XAD-16 in various environmental samples. The results shows good recovery compared with the results obtained with Cytosine. Effects of pH, reagent concentration, flowrate, volume of sample etc were studied.
