In this paper, we study anisotropic scattering and light propagation models applicable to diffuse optical tomography. We propose a model for anisotropic scattering in the radiative transfer framework and derive the corresponding anisotropic diffusion model. To verify the anisotropic diffusion model, we consider the case of a simple anisotropic scattering model also presentable within the diffus...

Anisotropic Non-Linear Diffusion is a powerful image processing technique, which allows to simultaneously remove the noise and enhance sharp features in two or three dimensional images. Anisotropic Diffusion is understood here in the sense of Weickert, meaning that diffusion tensors are anisotropic and reflect the local orientation of image features. This is in contrast with the non-linear diff...

Relations between anisotropic diffusion and robust statistics are described in this paper. Specifically, we show that anisotropic diffusion can be seen as a robust estimation procedure that estimates a piecewise smooth image from a noisy input image. The “edge-stopping” function in the anisotropic diffusion equation is closely related to the error norm and influence function in the robust estim...

in this paper the propagation of harmonic plane waves in a homogeneous anisotropic magneto-piezothermoelastic diffusive body with fractional order derivative is studied. the governing equations for a homogeneous transversely isotropic body in the context of the theory of thermoelasticity with diffusion given by sherief et al. [1] are considered as a special case. it is found that three types of...

The evolution of information in images undergoing fine-to-coarse anisotropic transformations is analyzed by using an approach based on the theory of irreversible transformations. In particular, we show that, when an anisotropic diffusion model is used, local variation of entropy production over space and scale provides the basis for a general method to extract relevant image features.

In this paper, a new anisotropic diffusion noise filtering technique is proposed. The technique has two specific features: it is designed for vector-valued images in general and for color images in particular, and it is a multiresolution technique, using wavelet transforms. The vector-valued feature is based on the first fundamental form, which reflects the edge information of a vector-valued i...

improving the quality of medical images at pre and post-surgery operations are necessary for beginning and speeding up the recovery process. partial differential equations (pdes)-based models have become a powerful and well known tool in different areas of image processing such as denoising, multiscale image analysis, edge detection and other fields of image processing and computer vision. in t...
