A series of pyrrole and pyrrolopyrimidine derivatives were examined for their in vivo antihyperglycemic activity. Compounds Ia-c,e, and IVg showed promising antihyperglycemic activity equivalent to a well-known standard antihyperglycemic drug, Glimepiride (Amaryl, 4 mg/kg). In this paper, we examine and discuss the structure-activity relationships and antihyperglycemic activity of these compounds.

OBJECTIVE To compare antihyperglycemic medication adherence and glycemic control between individuals with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders and a nonpsychiatric comparison group. METHODS This was a retrospective medical record review. A total of 124 subjects with diabetes (62 patients with schizophrenia or a related psychotic disorder and 62 randomly selected, age-matched patients...

Preliminary investigations on 14 plant extracts (obtained by ethanolic and aqueous extraction) identified those having high antioxidant and a significant total phenolic content. Antihyperglycemic, α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition activities were also observed. A correlation between the antihyperglycemic activity, total phenolic content and antioxidant (DPPH scavenging) activity was establ...

INTRODUCTION To identify reasons why primary care physicians (PCPs) do not treat older patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with antihyperglycemic agents following diagnosis. METHODS US PCPs were surveyed via the internet regarding their reasons for not treating patients aged >65 years diagnosed with T2DM and had not yet initiated antihyperglycemic therapy for ≥6 mont...

BACKGROUND Patients with diabetes are frequently admitted for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) on antihyperglycemic agents but may be discharged without glucose-lowering therapy. We examined the frequency of this practice and evaluated the associated outcomes of readmission and mortality. METHODS AND RESULTS We conducted a retrospective study of 24 953 Medicare beneficiaries with diabetes di...

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the antihyperglycemic activity of methanolic extract of Trianthema portulacastrum whole plant in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The STZ induced diabetic rats are divided into four groups of six animals each. Group I served as diabetic control, Group II diabetic rats were treated with a standard oral hypoglycaemic agent, glibenclamide (1m...

the hypoglycemic effect of ethanolic extract of casearia esculenta was investigated on alloxan induced diabetic rats. the blood glucose levels were measured at 0, 1, 2 and 3 h after the treatment. the ethanolic extract of c. esculenta (250 mg/kg) reduced the blood glucose of normal rat from 85.50±1.22 to 64.67±3.27 mg/dl, 3 h after oral administration of the extract (p<0.05). it also significan...

Eleven antidiabetic Indian medicinal plants were investigated in streptozotocin induced diabetic rat model and provided scientific validation to prove their antihyperglycemic activity. Antidiabetic principles from five plants were isolated. All the compounds isolated were evaluated for antihyperglycemic activity in streptozotocin induced diabetic rat model and activities were compared with stan...
